Vanessa Clarice is the palace identity adopted by Karina Maeril after she travels more than twenty years into the past. Early chapters remember Vanessa as Empress Julia Barielle's missing maid, a Chaser, and the “Queen Killer” apparently slain by Vanitas; the later temporal account reveals that Karina constructed the identity to preserve a particular sequence of history and survived the supposed execution through an ice clone. The winery brand bearing the same name is a later namesake, not this character. (Chapters 68–75, 99, 273–277, and 283)

Role in the Supplied Story

Vanessa first exists in fragmented memories and incomplete investigations. She is remembered as Julia's personal maid with access to the Imperial Family's Chasers, as an investigator connected to Mana Core Degeneration Syndrome, and as one of the people who disappears after Julia's death. Vanitas recalls killing her, while surviving records attach the title Queen Killer to her without explaining the sequence. Those gaps make Vanessa an ideal false culprit: her palace access connects Julia, Astrid Barielle Aetherion, Doctor Zelliel, and the failed research, but neither the investigators nor Vanitas initially know that the maid is a temporal identity. Vanessa is Karina using another name, not a separately designed body. The source later identifies the same silver-haired, blue-eyed woman beneath the role, and Zelliel notices enough familial resemblance to imagine how his daughter might look as an adult. Her position requires palace-maid presentation and she is addressed as Head Maid, but the supplied chapters do not specify a distinct disguise, uniform design, altered age, or physical transformation unique to “Vanessa.” (Chapters 12, 274, and 276)

Under the cover, Karina is composed, efficient, and willing to appear colder than her private motives.
