White Crown
The White Crown is a jeweled artifact recovered from Arm that consumes draconic blood and power. It resembles the crown once found on the black-swamp dragon corpse, but it is a later physical object: the earlier crown vanished when Cale acquired the Dominating Aura, while this one remains in his possession.
History
Recovery from Arm
Cale finds the crown inside a box guarded by Arm's Lion Tribe members at House Seca. Raon recognizes its connection to the black-swamp corpse, and the spirit of the Dominating Aura warns that the artifact has a taste for dragon blood. Repulsed but unwilling to abandon evidence tied to Arm and Raon, Cale stores it without touching it directly. (Chapter 39)
Interrogation and identification
Cale later shows the crown to Sirem while interrogating the captured dragon slayer. Erhaven senses it in Cale's subspace pouch and connects it to the extinct dragon-slayer bloodline and the half-blood dragon's condition. (Chapters 44 and 48)
The half-blood dragon's blood
After the half-blood dragon is defeated, Cale presses the crown's central jewel to his wound. The jewel drinks his blood and begins removing draconic power, reproducing the torment the chimera experienced during his captivity. Cale uses the Dominating Aura to control the artifact and later drains the remaining dragon blood until the captive is left with a weakened human body. The crown becomes full, but Cale retrieves it rather than leaving it behind. (Chapters 52 and 56)
Abilities and properties
- Its central white jewel consumes dragon blood and extracts the draconic power carried within it. (Chapters 52 and 56)
- The Dominating Aura frightens and controls the crown, allowing Cale to regulate its feeding. (Chapter 56)
- The artifact reacts hungrily to Raon, making it a continuing danger despite its usefulness against the half-blood dragon. (Chapter 52)
