Müller

Müller is a half-dwarf, half-Rat Tribe architect whose survival-minded designs reshape Henituse territory's fortifications, ships, and weapons.

Biography

Plaza terror and the southern expedition

Müller is the thirty-year-old descendant of a family that specialized in architecture for more than two centuries and helped develop Whipper's Magic Tower. A half-dwarf and half member of the Rat Tribe, he survives the anti-mage takeover by hiding inside the Tower's structure. Cale Henituse finds him and uses his inherited knowledge to access the secret fourth basement and Floor Zero, where the Tower's ruler concealed research and treasure (Chapter 15).

Fearful but quick and technically adept, Müller guides Cale through hidden mechanisms and then leaves the Tower with him. He drafts plans while traveling and is brought to the Henituse estate, where Cale introduces him to Count Deruth as the scion of the Tower's architects. His assignment is not a single building: he is asked to design stronger walls, a defensible castle, and a warship that can survive the coming conflict (Chapters 15–17).

Müller settles into work under Violan Henituse, who supplies him with fine clothes and jewelry while organizing the territory's artisans. Among architects and builders, his timidity gives way to pride. He claims twenty-nine years of experience with blueprints and hammers and begins directing a long-term construction program (Chapter 18).

Hais Islands and the Magic Tower

Müller's first major naval design is an unconventional vessel built to withstand magical bombardment while carrying overwhelming offensive capabilities. He develops its exterior and interior in phases, declaring that a strong bomb can be the greatest defense. The completed golden turtle ship impresses even Witira, while Müller confidently describes it as a vessel that will eventually dominate the seas (Chapters 20, 26).

At the same time, he designs Cale's coastal villa with an expansive, sturdy basement and powerful defenses. What Cale calls a peaceful residence is effectively a hidden stronghold, illustrating Müller's tendency to treat survival as the central design requirement (Chapter 26).

Ancient powers and imperial schemes

Müller's reputation rises as his walls and ship near completion. He lives in Harris Village while continuing construction, though the presence of the Tiger Tribe and Cale's cats terrifies his Rat Tribe instincts. Despite that fear, his fences, plans, and other works help turn the village into a secure home for Cale's growing coalition (Chapter 37).

Northern war and Death Canyon

When the Indomitable Alliance attacks Henituse territory, Müller's reinforced walls and magic-equipped catapults become the foundation of the defense. He prepares the deployment system, operates from the wall, and takes personal offense when the structure he designed begins to crack. The Müller-forged Sword is also given to Choi Han before the swordsman's duel (Chapter 43).

After the victory, Cale brings Müller to the Uvar front as a technical expert. Müller identifies the enemy's unusual ships as Flame Dwarf constructions and explains that their builders excel at mechanical devices but cannot create magic devices, giving Rowoon useful insight into the fleet's strengths and weaknesses (Chapter 44).

Appearance and personality

Müller is short and initially pale, thin, and visibly frightened. Good food and the Henituse household's patronage make him chubbier and better dressed; he favors conspicuous gold accessories when allowed to present himself as a master craftsman.

He is cowardly around danger, especially cats, tigers, and dragons, but proud and animated when discussing architecture or engineering. Praise brings out an arrogant streak, while fear gives his designs a consistent practical virtue: he plans structures and machines to keep their occupants alive.

Abilities and powers

Architecture and fortification engineering

Müller converts terrain, loads, expected attacks, escape routes, and secrecy requirements into blueprints. Walls, castles, basements, and hidden spaces are designed around failure modes: where an enemy will strike, what cracks first, and how occupants survive if the outer defense breaks. His inherited Tower knowledge includes mechanisms concealed from ordinary users. (Chapters 15–18, 26, 37, 43)

Blueprints are not instant construction. He needs artisans, materials, time, and patrons such as Violan Henituse to control contracts and labor. His role is technical direction and quality judgment across those specialists.

Shipbuilding and magic-device integration

The golden turtle ship combines a reinforced hull, interior layout, bombardment resistance, and overwhelming installed weapons. Müller treats offense as part of survivability: destroying the attack platform can protect a vessel more effectively than armor alone. (Chapters 20, 26)

He also integrates magic-equipped catapults and deployment systems into fortifications. Integration does not mean Müller personally casts every spell; mechanical structure, magic devices, stones, and operators must work together, and failure in one layer constrains the whole design. (Chapter 43)

Forging and technical analysis

Müller forges the Müller-forged Sword to withstand Choi Han's exceptional aura and repeated high-level use. Material selection and construction tolerance are the craft's core; Müller does not become the weapon's combatant. (Chapters 43, 47–48, 51–52)

He can also identify another culture's construction signature. Examining enemy ships lets him attribute them to Flame Dwarves and distinguish their excellent mechanical devices from true magic-device production. That analysis gives commanders exploitable limits without claiming the vessels are weak. (Chapter 44)

Relationships

  • Cale Henituse: Cale brings Müller out of the Magic Tower and employs his skills for ships, walls, residences, and weapons.
  • Violan Henituse: Violan becomes Müller's patron and supervises his work with the Henituse territory's artisans.
  • Ohn and Hong: Müller is deeply frightened of the pureblood cats, though they repeatedly accompany him and treat him without hostility.
  • Choi Han: Müller forges the sword Cale gives Choi Han during the defense of Henituse territory.
  • Witira: He explains the golden turtle ship's offensive and defensive design to the future Whale Queen.

Items

  • Müller-forged Sword: Müller forges the durable sword that Cale provides to Choi Han and that later survives repeated high-level battles (Chapters 43, 47–48, 51–52, 55, 58).

Müller's blueprints, ship, catapults, fortifications, and weapons are products of his craft commissioned for the Henituse household rather than artifacts he personally wields.
