Benion Sten

Benion Sten is a son of Marquess Sten who positions himself as the family's heir through violence, criminal influence, and an impeccable noble facade. His torture of Raon Mir and attacks on his elder brother make him a target of Cale Henituse's covert retaliation.

Biography

Henituse estate and new alliances

Benion first encounters Cale on the road after his carriage nearly runs down an elderly commoner. He treats the man as an obstacle rather than a victim and hides his contempt behind formal smiles. At the time, he has recently visited the cave where Raon is imprisoned and tortured, an activity he pursues for pleasure while trying to tame the dragon. After Raon's escape ruins his standing with his father, Benion appears at the royal gathering haggard and wrathful beneath the same polished manners. The return of his recovered brother, Taylor Sten, further destabilizes his claim to the succession. (Chapters 4, 8–9)

His succession strategy depends on converting private violence into an invisible political advantage. Taylor is crippled, Raon is hidden, and commoners are treated as people whose testimony does not matter. Once both victims survive and return to public relevance, Benion's polished image can no longer keep the consequences separated.

Plaza terror and the southern expedition

Benion questions Cale after the capital attack and continues watching Taylor's growing influence. Behind his aristocratic image, he controls parts of Sten territory's underworld and moves through its back alleys to suppress his brother's supporters. Cale's group ambushes him there: Raon confronts his former tormentor, while Ohn and Hong incapacitate Benion and his escorts with poison mist. After four days of retaliatory captivity, Cale restores Benion's visible appearance and leaves him in his own hideout for Taylor and the authorities to find. Benion is removed from succession and taken quietly to the Sten castle to answer for his crimes. (Chapters 10, 18)

The retaliation dismantles each protection in sequence. Mist separates Benion from armed subordinates, Raon reverses the captor-prisoner relationship, and Cale preserves enough of Benion's body and setting for Taylor to pursue official consequences. Benion loses not because he is defeated in a noble duel, but because the hidden machinery of his claim becomes evidence against him.

Appearance and personality

Benion has impressive blond hair and initially dresses with exacting care: pressed clothing, an unmarked white shirt, and spotless boots. His slight, practiced smile projects the image of a warm and proper noble. After Raon's escape and Taylor's return, he grows haggard and visibly wrathful; when cornered, that composure collapses into pallor, trembling, and terror. Benion uses practiced courtesy to keep intimidation and cruelty outside public view. Hidden subordinates, bases, and underworld ties let him attack Taylor's supporters without issuing official House Sten orders. Once Cale's group enters the same hidden network, secrecy reverses direction. Benion's escorts are incapacitated, his base becomes the place authorities find him, and the criminal structure supplies evidence rather than protection.

Benion carries a sword and reaches for it during the ambush, indicating ordinary noble arms training. The scoped chapters do not demonstrate aura, an advanced technique, or a notable victory.
