Mutated Sun Sacred Emblem
The Mutated Sun Sacred Emblem, officially numbered 3-0782, was a dark-gold badge imported from Intis. It continuously projected warmth and purification over a fifteen-meter radius. This made it exceptionally effective against corpses and spirits, but long exposure also purified living minds into vacant worship of the Sun.
History
Lamud Town deployment
Dunn Smith requisitioned 3-0782 for the Nighthawks' investigation of Lamud Castle. The team rotated custody because ordinary people could safely remain near it for only about an hour and Beyonders for roughly six. Dunn carried and wore it against the castle's wraith; when the wraith kicked it beyond the effective radius, Dunn trapped the confrontation inside a dream until a full minute of exposure elapsed and the spirit dissolved. He later threw the badge down a trapdoor to purify a hidden basement before entry. (Chapters 133–135)
The Nighthawks then kept the emblem outside Lamud Town and exchanged it in two-hour shifts. Frye handed it to Klein Moretti, who studied it in an isolated area. Divination revealed only fragments of light rather than a usable origin. (Chapters 135 and 139)
Flaring Sun Charms and return
Klein used the emblem as the divine side of a dualistic ritual, addressing its contained power rather than directly petitioning the Eternal Blazing Sun. He siphoned power into two Flaring Sun Charms. Their force could last at least a year, and the emblem appeared unchanged afterward, but the ritual exhausted and heated Klein. After the mission, the Nighthawks returned 3-0782 to Zouteland Street. Later references still place it behind Tingen's Chanis Gate. (Chapters 140–141, 205–206, and 1296)
Abilities and properties
- It continuously purified corpses, zombies, and spirits within fifteen meters. Lesser undead dispersed in under a minute; stronger or more corrupted targets could require longer, making it ill-suited to fast battles against legendary creatures. (Chapters 133–135 and 205)
- The same field purified living spirituality and thought. An ordinary person exposed for about an hour would become an idiot capable only of praising the Sun; the stated Beyonder limit was six hours. Rotation, distance, and exclusion of civilians were the practical counters. (Chapters 133–139)
- Its warm radiance cleansed impurities and could illuminate dark spaces. The badge itself was roughly half a palm in size, dark gold, and engraved with Sun symbols. (Chapters 134 and 139)
- A carefully constructed ritual could draw from it to create Flaring Sun Charms with Grade 2-level destructive purification. The corpus records one successful crafting session, not an unlimited or risk-free production method. (Chapter 140)
