Biography

Life in Klein's Era

Frye served in Dunn Smith's Tingen Nighthawk team as a Corpse Collector. His cold aura and affinity with death made him seem forbidding, but in practice he performed the team's most intimate work: examining bodies, interpreting traces left by the dead, and standing beside colleagues during dangerous investigations. He fought in the clashes surrounding Ray Bieber, Megose, and the Tingen catastrophe, surviving the losses that killed Dunn, Klein, and other teammates (Chapters 45–211).

Rather than leave Tingen behind, Frye continued advancing and accepted responsibility for the city. By the time Leonard returned, Frye had become a Sequence 7 Spirit Medium and captain of the Tingen Nighthawks. He consciously chose not to pursue further advancement, preferring to remain where he could protect the community and preserve the team's continuity. His latest state is alive, serving as a guardian shaped by death rather than consumed by ambition (Chapter 1013).

Appearance and personality

Frye has black hair, blue eyes, a high nose, thin lips, and skin made unusually pale by limited sunlight. He carries a cold, dark, corpse-like air that unsettles people who do not know him. Beneath it he is steady, taciturn, professional, and loyal. His decision to stop advancing suggests clear self-knowledge and a preference for dependable duty over status (Chapters 45–167, 1013).

Pathways and abilities

Frye began as a Sequence 9 Corpse Collector of the Death pathway, with sensitivity to corpses and spirits, resistance to cold and decay, and skill in examining causes of death. He later advanced through Sequence 8 Gravedigger to Sequence 7 Spirit Medium, gaining stronger communication with and influence over spirits. He also uses standard Nighthawk firearms and ritual knowledge, but Sealed Artifacts accessed as captain remain Church property rather than innate powers (Chapters 45–207, 1013).

Relationships
