Cards of Blasphemy

The Cards of Blasphemy are twenty-two cards made by Roselle Gustav, one for each pathway, after he saw the second Blasphemy Slate. They hide pathway names, potion formulas, advancement rituals, and related high-level knowledge behind mundane appearances and can confer the corresponding pathway's symbolic aura when activated or accommodated.

History

Roselle's concealed legacy

Roselle disguises each card as an ordinary object or image and scatters the set. Their anti-divination properties and hidden activation methods turn them into a delayed inheritance for people capable of recognizing them. Klein's first card appears to be a bookmark in Roselle's manuscript exhibition; he steals and activates it, discovering the Black Emperor card and its miniature-book form. (Chapters 317, 321–324, and 363)

Collection and distributed use

Klein gradually obtains the Black Emperor, Tyrant, Red Priest, and Fool cards and seals four cards together in Sefirah Castle. The Fool card is temporarily used in the arrangements surrounding the Trunsoest Brass Book, while other cards later leave storage for Tarot Club operations. (Chapters 815, 1289, and 1309)

In Book 2, the Demoness card is activated for Lumian and Bernadette, although an external high-level force obscures the apotheosis ritual recorded within it. Alger carries the Tyrant card as Grade 0-level support, and the Mother card is supplied during preparations involving Lumian's symbolic role. These appearances establish distributed custody rather than a single complete deck; the narrative never states that all twenty-two have been assembled. (Chapters 2456, 2563, and 2581)

Abilities and properties

• Each card records the Sequence names, potion formulas, ingredients, and advancement rituals for one pathway. At least some especially sensitive content can be concealed or interfered with by higher powers, so access to a card does not guarantee that every line is readable in every circumstance. (Chapters 363 and 2456)
• An activated card unfolds into a three-dimensional miniature book. Activation methods vary and may involve blood, a phrase, or another concealed condition; the corpus does not provide one universal procedure for the entire set. (Chapters 324, 363, and 815)
• The cards resist divination, prophecy, and ordinary detection. They can also attract corresponding high-level Beyonder characteristics through convergence, which makes possession strategically valuable and dangerous. (Chapters 317–324 and 815)
• A qualified holder can accommodate a card temporarily to borrow its pathway aura, status, or symbolic correspondence for disguise, ritual, or confrontation. This is not the same as permanently accommodating a Beyonder characteristic, and the exact usable effect depends on the card, holder, and surrounding powers. (Chapters 1081, 1122, 1291–1295, 1351, and 1382)
