Life in Klein's Era

Soest led a Red Gloves team tasked with difficult cases that crossed local Nighthawk jurisdictions. When Leonard Mitchell joined, Soest was a Sequence 6 Soul Assurer with a mystical item. He directed investigations into devil summoning and serial murder by balancing imaginative theories against limited manpower and evidence, giving subordinates room to propose ideas while retaining responsibility for the final plan (Chapters 402–426, 565, 688).

After advancing to Sequence 5 Spirit Warlock, Soest's team investigated Dwayne Dantès, the Saint Samuel Cathedral infiltration, the Rose School in East Balam, and Ince Zangwill's activities. He accepted Daly Simone's risky possession theory and escalated it to senior authorities rather than dismissing it for lacking proof. Following the East Balam operation, the team returned north; during the war Soest's unit was reassigned to the Church's wider defense, and he remained alive at the latest report (Chapters 764, 846–950, 1099).

Appearance and personality

The supplied corpus gives little fixed physical description for Soest beyond the Red Gloves' black coat and red-gloved uniform. His personality is clearer: he is calm, procedural, dryly humorous, and willing to revise a conclusion when details accumulate. He cares for his subordinates without indulging them and can look almost casual while managing dangerous investigations (Chapters 409–424, 849–950).

Pathways and abilities

Soest advanced from Sequence 6 Soul Assurer to Sequence 5 Spirit Warlock of the Death pathway. A Soul Assurer can calm and stabilize spirits, while a Spirit Warlock is especially suited to finding, communicating with, and controlling natural spirits for investigation or combat. The corpus distinguishes these innate powers from the mystical items assigned to him by the Church; it does not establish every effect of those artifacts as Soest's own ability (Chapters 402, 764, 885–917).
