Omebella

Omebella is the ancient Giant Queen and Goddess of Harvest whose death, stolen identity, surviving remains, and engineered rebirth connect the City of Silver's oldest history to the apocalypse. The name refers to a continuous mystical identity expressed through several forms, not to Earth Mother Lilith, who impersonated Omebella, and not to every temporary bearer of Omebella's bloodline.

Biography

Role in the Central Conflict

Omebella was born in the middle of the First Epoch as the elder sister of Zedus. Her mother was, strictly speaking, the Brood Hive after it had been torn from the Great Mother, and her father was the Primordial God Almighty. She later became the wife of Giant King Aurmir and the Giant Queen, while the City of Silver worshiped her rather than Aurmir directly. To those human vassals she alternated between maternal abundance and terrible payment: one aspect protected harvests, livestock, and population growth, while the other demanded bloody sacrifice and could impose famine. The records therefore preserve real care and real cruelty within the same ancient divinity, rather than the uniformly benevolent image later attached to the Earth Mother faith. Her first death was part of a conspiracy that stole her identity and destiny. Later evidence identifies the Ancient Sun God's arrangement as the decisive cause: because the Ancient Sun God bore the consciousness and powers of Omebella's true father, the killing carried the symbolism of death by a direct relative. Omebella nevertheless returned in a strange condition and walked to the City of Silver, where she demanded the sacrifice of half the population to restore her life. Her own believers refused and killed her; “child slew mother” became both their liberation and a second repetition of the same fatal pattern. Her body, which contained no ordinary Beyonder characteristics but retained authority, spirit, and obsession, became the Grade 0 Sealed Artifact called the Gift of the Land. This history must be separated from Lilith's identity. The deity known as Earth Mother was Sanguine Ancestor Lilith, who used Omebella's stolen identity and destiny to deceive even Omebella's supposed family for millennia. The true Omebella was already dead and remained in the City of Silver. That impersonation later made Lilith vulnerable to the consequences of Omebella's true return, but it did not make the two women one consciousness or one body. (Chapters 1269 and 1277)

The Great Mother spent years constructing redundant routes for that return. In Cordu, Pualis de Roquefort, acting as the Mother's representative, bore a child with Padre Guillaume Bénet and maneuvered the padre into killing the newborn. That first incarnation recreated Omebella's death at the hands of a father who symbolized the Eternal Blazing Sun. An umbilical remnant later gave Lumian Lee an Omebella bloodline and access to the ancient remains, while a black egg beneath the Phoenix Ancestor's corpse incubated another route to gestation. These were coordinated pieces of one intended “true birth,” not independent children who happened to share a name. (Chapters 1540–1541, 2179, 2206–2207, 2478, 2547, and 2550)

Omebella finally entered reality again as the infant carried by Pualis. The birth repeated the ancient parentage symbolically—Pualis stood for the Great Mother and Brood Hive, while the padre and the Eternal Blazing Sun stood for the Primordial God Almighty—and destabilized both the Sun and Lilith. Over less than a year, the infant grew into a vacant-eyed girl five or six meters tall. During the struggle over the Brood Hive, Lumian used his recognized role as mother and his connection to Omebella's remains to reverse the Great Mother's own arrangement. His Fire of Destruction annihilated both the spirit within the Gift of the Land and the remote reborn girl. Her final confusion was directed at the mother who appeared to be killing her; afterward, the corpus explicitly states that no trace of Omebella's consciousness or spirituality remained. Appearance and personality

The original Giant Queen is not given a reliable face in the surviving record. Even Groselle, who served in the Giant King's Court, had seen the highest figures only while bowing and could reproduce Omebella only as a portrait. Her later physical states are clearer: the Gift of the Land is a hollow, seven- or eight-meter withered trunk with branch-like arms, a distorted human pattern, crimson flowers for eyes, and blood-colored traces in its grain; the true-born Omebella first appears as an infant and grows within a year into a five- or six-meter young girl. City of Silver records portray Omebella as maternal but unstable. She treated the city's people as children, secured food and births, and was praised for using her maternal nature to calm Aurmir, yet she also demanded human lives when her desolate aspect descended. The lingering spirit in her remains expresses pain, terror, hatred, and tenderness toward Zedus. The reborn child displays little independent personality in the supplied corpus: at death she is vacant, confused, and sorrowful, unable to understand why the being she recognizes as mother has turned against her. Pathways and abilities

Omebella is an ancient divine offspring associated with harvest, reproduction, and the Earth pathway, but the corpus does not provide a conventional Sequence for her. Her corpse contains no normal Beyonder characteristics. Its active power is later identified as a Desolate Matriarch boon, while the reincarnation's importance rests principally on parentage, identity, and symbolic correspondence. Those distinctions matter: the Gift of the Land's effects are sourced from a boon preserved in her remains, and Lumian's acquired “Omebella bloodline” does not prove that every power he possesses belonged to Omebella. Harvest, fertility, and desolation

In life, Omebella could produce abundant harvests and rapid reproduction, yet her authority also linked extreme fertility to famine, sacrifice, and return to the soil. The Gift of the Land preserves both poles. Passively it can create edible plants and promote fertility over tens or hundreds of kilometers, but it can also randomly desolate land. When actively used, it can drain life across thirty kilometers, poison a fifty-kilometer region, cultivate beneficial Beyonder plants, tame unintelligent animals, animate up to nine demigod-level material dolls, and strengthen the tendency of Beyonders to lose control. These are recorded capabilities of the remains, not feats directly shown from the reborn girl. (Chapters 2322–2323)

The remains also turn dead humans within their range into evil spirits unless they were murdered by a direct relative, echoing Omebella's own repeated deaths. Contact can induce conception even in Beyonders with godhood, and the risk is stronger for someone carrying her bloodline. The artifact is consequently as hazardous to its user as to an enemy: its broad effects are difficult to contain, historical users died quickly, and even controlled contact forces visions, emotional intrusion, and gestational danger. Mystical continuity and true birth

Omebella's umbilical remnant can integrate with another person and establish enough mystical continuity to resonate with the Gift of the Land, the black egg, and creatures corrupted by the Great Mother. For Lumian this promised limited command over such creatures and temporary access to the Grade 0 remains, but it also invited the Great Mother's attention and unknown influences. This is a transmissible bloodline connection, not a general resurrection skill that Omebella consciously activates. (Chapters 2179, 2193, 2206, and 2267)

Her eventual birth is powered by exact symbolic repetition rather than ordinary gestation alone. Ancient and current parents, the identity stolen by Lilith, death by a father or direct relative, the Brood Hive, and Lumian's enacted role as mother all have to align. That makes the rebirth cosmologically powerful but also creates a weakness: the same links allow Lumian to target the child across distance through destruction of Lilith and the ancient remains. Once the Fire of Destruction consumes all three components of body, spirit, and mystical continuity, no further Omebella resurrection is established. (Chapters 2546–2547 and 2581–2583)

Relationships

• Pualis de Roquefort: Pualis bears the Cordu incarnation and later carries the truly born infant, functioning simultaneously as immediate mother and the Great Mother's symbolic representative.
• Lumian Lee: Lumian absorbs an umbilical remnant and becomes a false bloodline continuation, which lets Omebella's remains recognize him and ultimately helps him enact the role of mother. He later uses that recognized connection to destroy both the remains and the reborn child.
• Derrick Berg: Derrick's City of Silver preserves and seals Omebella's corpse as the Gift of the Land. As a leader of the New City, he permits Lumian to study it under strict safeguards.
• Zedus: Omebella's younger brother and the original identity behind the Abscessed Hand. Her remnant consciousness recognizes his mark and calls his name, and the siblings' remains later accept Lumian in a maternal role.
• Giant King Aurmir: Omebella's husband. Her maternal nature reportedly helped him manage instability, while their marriage placed her at the center of the Giant King's Court.
• Sanguine Ancestor Lilith: Lilith is not Omebella. She impersonates the dead Giant Queen by holding her stolen identity and destiny, a link that later makes Omebella's true birth and destruction affect her.
