Megose

Megose is a young Tingen woman deceived by Lanevus and turned into the vessel for the True Creator's unborn spawn. Her death at Blackthorn Security Company is central to the catastrophe that destroys the original Tingen Nighthawk team.

Biography

Encounters Across Both Eras

Megose is introduced as Lanevus's pregnant fiancée after he disappears with money taken from her family. Although depressed by his betrayal, she chooses to keep the child and speaks of it as if it can already sing, whistle, and communicate with her. What appears to be maternal attachment is already entangled with supernatural influence: Lanevus and Hood Eugen had placed her in a semi-conscious state for a descent ritual, while Ince Zangwill added a characteristic connected to Death. Drawn to Blackthorn Security Company by an inexplicable impulse, Megose calmly describes the fetus speaking to her until Klein Moretti, Dunn Smith, and Leonard Mitchell recognize the danger. The fetus absorbs and transforms her body, forcing the Nighthawks into a desperate battle. Dunn uses Saint Selena's ashes and the Flaring Sun charm to destroy the spawn and Megose's corrupted body, sacrificing himself in the process; in the later era, Megose survives only in recollections of the Tingen disaster rather than as an active participant. Appearance and personality

Before the ritual's final stage, Megose is a beautiful woman in her early twenties with long blond hair, a bright forehead, large eyes, and a subdued expression. She is initially quiet, hurt, and resolute about keeping her child. Her later serenity and distorted perceptions are effects of manipulation and corruption, not reliable evidence of her ordinary temperament. (Chapters 116, 204)

Pathways and abilities

Megose never follows a Beyonder pathway of her own. Her monstrous strength, proliferating heads, exposed flesh, bone blade, curses, and resistance during the Blackthorn battle come from serving as the True Creator's vessel and from the descending fetus. Those powers therefore should not be treated as abilities she freely mastered or controlled. (Chapters 204–209)

Relationships

Lanevus gains Megose's trust through an engagement and then exploits her family, body, and pregnancy for the ritual. Her aunt Christina introduces her to Klein out of concern. The Tingen Nighthawks ultimately confront her as a lethal vessel while still recognizing that she is one of Lanevus and Ince Zangwill's victims. (Chapters 116, 204, 210)
