Biography

Cordu, Trier, and the Approaching Apocalypse

Martha had once been a Maiden of the Sea, and her marriage preceded her husband's rise from fisherman to the owner of a fisheries company and a position of influence in the guild. She became the Paco family's matriarch and the mother of Rubio Paco, retaining residual power associated with the sea into old age. (Chapters 1974–1979)

Before her apparent visit to the Governor, Loki had already killed Martha and converted her into a marionette. Her supposed severe injury gave the puppet a plausible reason to appear weak while placing one of Loki's controlled bodies near the Governor; the later revelation means that the Martha seen moving, kneeling, and fighting during this period was not acting voluntarily. Appearance and personality

Martha appeared little more than fifty despite being in her sixties, with faint wrinkles around light-blue eyes, grayish-black hair, lingering charm, and a pale, weakened complexion. Her black dress and dark old-fashioned bonnet resembled widow's clothing, but the corpus provides little reliable evidence of her living personality because her direct scenes occur after she has become a marionette. Pathways and abilities

As a former Maiden of the Sea, Martha retained supernatural power connected to the sea, although no standard pathway or Sequence is stated. Through her corpse, Loki released a green spectral beam, a formless force, and an effect associated with the Cosmic Void; these are evidence of residual capability in the marionette, not proof that Martha consciously used them after death. Relationships

Martha was Rubio Paco's mother and the central matriarch of a prosperous maritime family. Loki's murder and puppeteering of her exploited those family ties to approach Juan Oro and the Governor without immediately exposing the deception. (Chapters 1974–2010)
