Darkwill

Darkwill is a Bayam apothecary, Life School of Thought member, and Beast Tamer partnered with the talking owl Harry. His effort to rescue his teacher Roy King leaves him responsible for the dangerously sentient Die of Probability.

Biography

Life in Klein's Era

Darkwill runs a herb shop while paying adventurers to locate his captured teacher, Roy King. Frightened of official organizations and naturally inclined to flee exposure, he nevertheless stays in Bayam, contacts fellow Life School members, and follows Roy's cryptic instruction to retrieve a die. Once Roy is rescued but unable to travel, Darkwill accepts the mission of delivering the artifact to the School's council. (Chapters 585–586, 591–603)

Recognizing that the die's manipulation of probability is beyond him, Darkwill hires Gehrman Sparrow at great personal expense and reveals the danger instead of hiding it from his escort. The Die of Probability causes escalating accidents and repeatedly places him, Harry, and nearby passengers at risk, but Darkwill follows Gehrman's containment instructions until they reach Oravi. He thanks fate on landing and remains alive under Life School protection; Ricciardo later proposes augmenting his luck so he can gamble on the group's behalf. (Chapters 604–612)

Appearance and personality

Darkwill is consistently described as chubby, with expressive facial muscles that betray alarm, pain over spending money, and relief. He is anxious, cautious, comically stingy, and aware that he is not a fighter, yet loyalty to Roy and honesty about the die push him through a mission he would otherwise avoid. (Chapters 585–586, 601, 604–605)

Pathways and abilities

Darkwill is a Sequence 8 Beast Tamer of the Moon pathway and retains the potion-making and medical foundation of an Apothecary. He can prepare effective medicines, tame and communicate closely with animals, and help an animal consume a suitable potion. His limited combat ability and lack of authority over fate leave him almost helpless against the die's accidents. (Chapters 586, 604–610)

Relationships

Roy King is Darkwill's teacher, and rescuing him motivates the entire sequence of risks. Harry, his potion-enhanced owl, is a sarcastic companion who reads his body language and shares the danger. Klein, as Gehrman Sparrow, becomes a highly paid protector whom Darkwill fears but trusts with the truth. (Chapters 585–586, 601–612)

Items

Darkwill transports the Die of Probability in a ring box on Roy's instructions but never controls or owns it in any meaningful sense; it is destined for the Life School's council. His herb stock and medicines are professional supplies rather than named mystical artifacts. (Chapters 603–612)
