Cosmi

Cosmi Odora is a Sanguine Baron and senior member of the Odora family in Backlund. Acting for his grandfather Nibbs, he becomes an intermediary between the conservative Sanguine establishment and Emlyn White.

Biography

Life in Klein's Era

Cosmi hosts a Backlund Sanguine gathering and receives Emlyn White, whose claim of receiving the Ancestor's revelation is too important to dismiss. He brings Emlyn to the hidden Nibbs and participates in the effort to make the reluctant young Sanguine accept missions on behalf of the race. He also reveals the Odora family's practical adaptation to modern Backlund, including a hospital relationship that secures lawful blood supplies. (Chapters 458–459)

Thereafter Cosmi repeatedly carries Nibbs's instructions, rewards, and equipment to Emlyn. When Emlyn becomes an Earl, Cosmi briefly resents the younger Sanguine's elevation and considers claiming a share of his spoils, but Nibbs rebukes him and he backs down rather than splitting the family. His later behavior at Harvest Church acknowledges Emlyn's new standing, leaving Cosmi alive as a cautious establishment figure who has accepted the changed hierarchy. Appearance and personality

Cosmi presents himself as a gracious middle-aged gentleman despite being more than two centuries old. He is polished, tradition-minded, and capable of jealousy, but he generally restrains personal resentment when Nibbs or the interests of the Sanguine require discipline. (Chapters 458–459, 1238)
