Wei Changfeng

Wei Changfeng is the owner of Hongyuan's Spirit Emporium and the devoted father of Wei Ruyan. His pursuit of rare medicines for her turns him from an unscrupulous merchant into Zhang Xuan's servant and ultimately costs him his life. (Chapters 757–811)

Biography

Death for his daughter and return

After Zhang Xuan subdues him for the Spirit Emporium's attack on his companions, Wei reveals that his hoarding and theft of treasures are attempts to keep his terminally ill daughter alive. Zhang Xuan agrees to treat her, and Wei risks the dangerous Cloudmist Ridge to retrieve the Cloudmist Flower needed for the cure. A saint beast fatally wounds him, but he secures the herb and entrusts Ruyan to Zhang Xuan before dying. Much later his soul is found in the Firmament's Netherworld Pool: his Innate Soul Embryo has preserved him, and Demon Monarch Qiankun restores him to a body. Reunited with Ruyan, he again serves Zhang Xuan and gathers rare resources from the Flooding Sea. (Chapters 757–811, 889, and 2,262–2,264)

Appearance and personality

Wei is a middle-aged merchant whose hard bargaining conceals desperation over his daughter's condition. He is secretive and morally compromised in business, but his defining trait is paternal devotion strong enough to accept servitude and death. (Chapters 757–798)

Abilities and cultivation

His strengths are commerce, treasure knowledge, and determined fieldwork rather than exceptional combat. The later revelation of an Innate Soul Embryo explains his preserved soul and his daughter's constitution, but it does not make his original death illusory. (Chapters 757–798 and 2,262–2,264)
