Sage Mo Ling

Sage Mo Ling is an Ancient Sage soul oracle who has endured among the Spirit Tribe while remaining committed to the day when humanity might be freed from the Otherworldly threat. He initially encounters Zhang Xuan during the latter's infiltration of the Spirit Tribe capital. (Chapters 1,803–1,807, 1,848)

Biography

From hostile scrutiny to the peace coalition

Mo Ling detects that the disguised intruder's soul and appraisal ability do not fit his claimed identity. He devises a soul-body compatibility test and exposes Zhang Xuan, then attacks with the Soulcrushing Ruler. Once the wider political alignment becomes clear, he joins Zhang Xuan and Wu Chen's coalition against the usurping sovereigns, expending enough soul energy to require immediate recovery. The new peace astonishes him because the Soul Oracle Guild has suffered for tens of thousands of years while hoping for exactly such an end. He remains with the group afterward and supplies information about the Hundred Schools of Philosophers. (Chapters 1,803–1,816, 1,848–1,853)

Appearance and personality

Mo Ling appears as an elderly Ancient Sage. He is suspicious, observant, and capable of sustaining a disguise or institutional role over a long period. His caution makes him a dangerous investigator, while his reaction to peace reveals that his deeper loyalty is to humanity rather than the Spirit Tribe court he inhabits. (Chapters 1,803–1,848)

Abilities and cultivation

As an Ancient Sage soul oracle, Mo Ling can inspect compatibility between soul and body, create isolation barriers, and attack the soul directly. His Ancient Sage artifact, the Soulcrushing Ruler, can lock a target's soul and attempt to tear it apart. It remains an external weapon: Vicious can redirect it against Mo Ling, and sustained combat depletes Mo Ling's soul energy. (Chapters 1,805–1,816)
