Mo Hongyi

Mo Hongyi is a royal clansman and master teacher celebrated as Tianwu Kingdom's greatest genius in a thousand years before Zhang Xuan arrives. A son of one of the princes, he is not originally favored in the succession, but talent earns him enough prestige to become a plausible rival for the throne. At twenty-six, he is already accomplished in three supporting occupations as well as master teaching. (Chapter 287)

His principal arc is a rivalry that turns into professional respect. Zhang Xuan repeatedly breaks his examination records, prompting Mo Hongyi to accelerate his own 2-star test. Both eventually teach under disguises at Tianwu Academy, where Mo Hongyi proves that his reputation reflects genuine instructional skill even though Zhang Xuan continues to outperform him. Biography

The kingdom's benchmark genius

Before appearing directly, Mo Hongyi is the standard by which Tianwu's young master teachers are measured. His early record combines a 1-star pinnacle master-teacher rank with 2-star apothecary, formation-master, and blacksmith credentials. Because his standing comes from demonstrated achievement rather than proximity to the emperor, his rise also creates a succession problem: a royal relative once outside the line for the throne can no longer be ignored. Mo Hongyi presides over Mo Yu's final 1-star examination and treats his own cultivation time severely, even threatening a servant with punishment for an unimportant interruption. When reports show Zhang Xuan breaking his records, his indifference becomes competitive fascination. He correctly reasons that the Supporting Occupation Pavilion has revised its grading because Zhang Xuan's “errors” improve the reference methods, demonstrating enough knowledge to understand why an impossible score is valid. Chasing Zhang Xuan through the 2-star examination

Unable to tolerate being displaced without a response, Mo Hongyi requests the 2-star master-teacher examination and openly tries to prove that he remains Tianwu's foremost genius. He points to the occupation, cultivation, and Soul Depth requirements one after another, only for Zhang Xuan to meet each threshold in increasingly extraordinary fashion. Mo Hongyi's Soul Depth of 6.0 and three 2-star occupations are real accomplishments; his humiliation comes from choosing an opponent whose growth ignores the pace he assumes every cultivator must follow. The examination requires the candidates to enter Tianwu Academy under concealed identities and earn their students' trust. Mo Hongyi becomes Sun Cheng, spends long hours teaching, and develops lessons that even elite students praise for making difficult principles clear. He achieves the required Trust Level through sustained attention and careful preparation. Zhang Xuan's disguised class still surpasses his result, but Mo Hongyi finishes the examination, becomes a 2-star master teacher, and receives an ancient predecessor's acknowledgement. Rivalry tempered into respect

Mo Hongyi's most humiliating mishap occurs because he drinks tea that Zhang Xuan's students had poisoned for their teacher's disguised identity. The drug leaves him unable to control his body and he falls into a waste drain. Once he reconstructs the mistake, he recognizes that he was an accidental victim rather than Zhang Xuan's intended target; Zhang Xuan removes the poison with needles and Heaven's Path zhenqi. The episode leaves resentment and embarrassment but does not turn Mo Hongyi into a malicious opponent. (Chapters 367–369)

By the end of their shared examination, Mo Hongyi accepts the difference between them. He still hopes his students' trust might exceed Zhang Xuan's, yet responds with a bitter smile rather than sabotage when it does not. Pavilion Master Jiang then reminds both new 2-star master teachers that the rank is a responsibility toward students rather than an honor alone. Mo Hongyi's last reported state is alive in Tianwu Kingdom, his prestige continuing to rise after the promotion and making him a political concern until Mo Yu receives the Xuanyuan throne. Appearance and personality

Mo Hongyi is a young man of twenty-six at his introduction. The narrative emphasizes a composed, haughty bearing and the confidence of someone accustomed to being the best in his generation. As Sun Cheng, he conceals his recognized identity sufficiently to teach at Tianwu Academy without his students knowing they are part of a master-teacher examination. (Chapters 287, 302–320)

He is proud, competitive, and harsh about discipline. An interruption to cultivation can provoke an excessive punishment, and Zhang Xuan's records drive him into an examination before he otherwise intended to take it. Yet he is also analytical and conscientious: he recognizes the logic behind corrected examination scores, works tirelessly on his disguised students, and does not resort to fraud when he loses. Abilities and cultivation

Master teaching and supporting occupations

Mo Hongyi advances from 1-star pinnacle to 2-star master teacher during the Tianwu arc. His Soul Depth reaches 6.0, the minimum for the promotion, and his disguised teaching produces the required student trust within the examination period. His explanations are praised even by high-performing academy students, showing that he is more than a test specialist. The comparison with Zhang Xuan reveals a limit in degree, not a lack of competence. (Chapters 287, 313, 367–397)

He is also a 2-star apothecary, 2-star formation master, and 2-star blacksmith. Those qualifications satisfy the promotion's supporting-occupation requirement and let him interpret technical examination behavior. Mo Hongyi is a Zongshi realm pinnacle cultivator and one of Tianwu Kingdom's strongest active young experts.
