Shadow Shroud

The Shadow Shroud is Vernon Melfion's rare black stealth equipment. Its concealment and control of external light make it valuable for covert operations, but its distinctive ownership also makes discovery politically dangerous.

History

The Spartans operation

Wyntor Melfion persuades Vernon to loan the Shroud to Nick for the attack on the Spartans. It hides Nick's expression and appearance during the operation, but the equipment creates an evidentiary link between the masked attacker and Kugelblitz. Nick therefore returns it before Vernon retrieves the locked briefcase in which it had been transported; Vernon later admits that reporting Nick would also implicate himself. Infiltrating Anatomy

Nick requests the Shroud again while preparing to enter Anatomy, and Aria Light helps equip the operation under the Death Pact. Nick removes the suit once its concealment is no longer needed. The corpus later establishes its operational limits: continuous use consumes an extreme amount of Zephyx, and physical damage shuts the effect down, potentially trapping the wearer in the darkness the suit creates around them. Abilities and properties

• The suit covers the wearer in black concealment, obscuring identity and expression while supporting covert movement. (Chapters 276 and 280)
• Its operation blocks external light, a property that can protect the wearer in darkness-based encounters but becomes dangerous if the suit fails. (Chapter 532)
• Long-term activation has an extreme Zephyx cost, and damage ends the effect. (Chapter 532)
