Ghost Wire
The Ghost Wire is a roughly hundred-meter length of nearly invisible Specter silk that connects a Zephyx Extractor to thrown equipment, letting the wielder retrieve weapons, redirect momentum, and use the line itself as a cutting hazard.
History
Manela's training
Manela introduces the Ghost Wire while teaching Nick to fight with throwing spears. She threads a wire through a spear so Nick can recover it without crossing the battlefield, then makes him practice the less obvious consequence: a missed high-force throw can pull the user toward the target or into an enemy. Nick learns to use that momentum deliberately, attaching the wire to his wrist gear, pulling himself across rooftops, and releasing the connection when secrecy or safety matters more than recovering the weapon. (Chapters 124–126, 150–151, 165, 267, and 270)
Abilities and properties
- Each documented wire is about one hundred meters long and can retrieve an attached spear within that reach. A longer throw requires the user to release the wire or accept the resulting pull. (Chapters 124–125)
- The line is difficult to see, strong enough to redirect an Extractor's movement, and sharp enough under tension to cut a metal building. (Chapters 125–126 and 165)
- Its connection can be severed or disengaged, which prevents the line from revealing Nick's position but sacrifices the retrieval advantage. (Chapters 165, 267, and 270)
