Elixir

The Elixir is an exceptionally expensive Aegis resource that supplies enough Zephyx for a talented Peak Veteran to construct a refined internal Barrier and advance to Expert without decades of ordinary accumulation.

History

Kugelblitz's bargain

Vernon Melfion offers Nick an Elixir as part of the Death Pact governing the operation against Anatomy. Kugelblitz normally receives one only every three years and values the dose above an ordinary Elder Specter, so Vernon's willingness to spend it demonstrates the company's desperation. Aria Light retrieves the secured resource and teaches Nick to focus its Zephyx around his Synchronizer. The abundance lets him patiently construct an unusually close-fitting Shell rather than accept the easier, less efficient design used by most Extractors. (Chapters 462–466)

Nick later learns that Aegis distributes such doses through Governors to the most talented Peak Veterans, who ordinarily join Aegis as Bailiffs after advancing. Reaching Expert without one is possible through near-perfect efficiency and an early start, but rare. Much later, the Technician consumes multiple Elixirs while researching an improved formula, confirming that the technology remains costly even at Aegis' highest level. Abilities and properties

• The Elixir releases a large quantity of usable Zephyx around the consumer's Synchronizer, enabling formation of the internal Shell needed for the Expert stage. (Chapter 465)
• It does not build the Shell automatically: the user controls its shape, and a design that touches the Synchronizer can crack and fail. (Chapters 465–466)
• Its scarcity shapes Aegis recruitment, with cities receiving only occasional doses for exceptional Peak Veterans. (Chapter 559)
