The Robe

The Robe is a powerful Physical Specter that supervises Pride's servants and tests Nick while he infiltrates the faction. Its ability to suppress other powers and control dispersed bodies makes it a uniquely dangerous counter to Nick's assumed mist form. (Chapters 680–689)

Biography

Testing and hunting an infiltrator

The Robe encounters Nick while he poses as a simple mist Specter that has killed another servant. Calmly and with apparently limitless patience, it questions the inconsistency, reports to Pride, and orders Nick to demonstrate his strength rather than accepting the disguise at face value. When a replacement servant also dies, the Robe decides to exhaust Nick until only a defenseless core remains. It suppresses Nick's mist ability, wraps and controls parts of his body, and pursues him through underground passages, turning Nick's usual dispersal tactic into a liability. Nick survives by luring it through an ancient filtering machine and exposing it to a dangerous liquid that converts the Robe into white dust. The death removes Pride's local supervisor and lets Nick report a deliberately false lower rank to Aegis, while his own assessment identifies the Robe as probably a Peak Demon. (Chapters 680–689 and 698)

Appearance and personality

The Robe is a two-dimensional, ethereal, robe-shaped being thin enough to resemble fabric. It can narrow or reshape itself into a string-like form and travel through earth. Its speech is calm, patient, and analytical even while issuing death threats, and it prefers testing inconsistencies before attacking. That patience does not become mercy: once convinced that Nick is dangerous, it methodically tries to reduce him to a helpless core. (Chapters 680–683)

Abilities and Zephyx

The Robe can suppress Nick's active abilities when it is close enough to perceive or envelop him, forcing his mist into a vulnerable physical state. It can wrap, separate, and control portions of his dispersed body and attack the will carried within different clouds, directly countering his normal escape method. The exact activation condition is not fully explained, but Nick's ability resumes when the Robe is absent. Its mobility includes reshaping into narrow forms and moving through earth. (Chapters 682–683 and 689)

Nick judges the Robe faster than ordinary Demons and eventually concludes it was probably a Peak Demon. It is not a Force Specter and lacks exceptional regeneration, so accumulated damage is harder for it to repair. The ancient filter and reactive liquid bypass its combat advantages and destroy its body and core despite its superior direct power. (Chapters 683 and 689)

• Pride: The Robe acts as Pride's local supervisor, reports on servant deaths, and enforces her instructions among subordinate Specters. (Chapter 680)
• Nick: The Robe recognizes inconsistencies in Nick's disguise, tests him, and nearly neutralizes his defining mist abilities. Nick kills it through preparation and an environmental trap rather than direct superiority. (Chapters 680–689)
