Reynold
Reynold is Kugelblitz's physical trainer and a Veteran who prepares Nick for advancement. His brutal regimen and direct advice teach Nick both how to build an Extractor's body and how such a career can consume ordinary relationships. (Chapters 130–137)
Biography
Training Nick for advancement
Reynold accepts a wager that Nick will abandon his physical training within ten days, only to learn that Manela has already conditioned him to endure extreme pain. He acknowledges the lost bet, clears nearby houses to make an arena, and places crushing gauntlets and greaves on Nick before driving him through repeated exercises. The regimen forces Nick to understand Zephyx regeneration, muscular strength, and the gap between determination and safe progress. Reynold also warns that an Extractor's long life and work can destroy relationships with ordinary people, making his instruction a lesson about the profession's social cost as well as combat preparation. No later scene follows Reynold's individual career; Nick eventually remembers him among the many former contacts who have died, without establishing another promotion or a later change in their relationship. (Chapters 130–137 and 956)
Appearance and personality
Reynold is shorter than Manela but nearly twice as wide, with enormous, sharply defined muscles and almost no visible fat. His deep voice, explosive movements, loud laughter, and boisterous confidence make him intimidating, yet he is friendly and willing to admit when he loses a wager. He can become serious instantly when explaining the consequences of an Extractor's life. (Chapters 130–137)
Abilities and Zephyx
As a Veteran, Reynold possesses enhanced strength, speed, endurance, and a Barrier. His specialty is physical conditioning rather than a named supernatural technique: he understands how Zephyx regeneration interacts with exertion and designs training that pushes Nick without making the equipment itself do the work. The corpus does not name his synchronized ability or describe a full combat demonstration. (Chapters 130–137)
Relationships
- Nick: Reynold begins by betting against Nick's persistence, then becomes his physical instructor and gives him unusually candid career advice. (Chapters 130–137)
- Manela: Learning that Manela previously trained Nick explains his tolerance for pain and makes Reynold immediately concede his wager. (Chapter 130)
Items
- Reynold supplies extremely heavy gauntlets and greaves for Nick's regimen. They are training equipment rather than named artifacts, and their purpose is to add weight while leaving Nick responsible for movement. (Chapters 131–137)
