Xu Ran is a Three-Essences Dao Lord of the Righteous Noble Sect whose eccentric attempt to recruit Meng Hao develops into a sincere act of protection.

Biography

Recruiting Meng Hao

Xu Ran notices Meng Hao while the latter is traveling under an assumed identity. What convinces him is not a demonstrated sect inheritance but the “righteous and noble aura” he believes he can perceive. He introduces himself without ceremony, decides that Meng Hao is an ideal seedling, and tries to bring him into the Righteous Noble Sect. His enthusiasm immediately creates an awkward hierarchy: his disciples are told to assist their new “Elder Uncle,” even though Meng Hao has neither accepted the position nor understood what Xu Ran intends. (Chapters 1223–1224)

The comedy does not erase the weight behind the invitation. Xu Ran is one of his sect’s three Dao Realm experts and the second strongest among them. When Meng Hao’s enemies and the Heavengod Alliance’s bounty become relevant, Xu Ran refuses to surrender the man he has just claimed. He escorts Meng Hao back toward the sect, dismisses the political danger, and treats protecting a prospective disciple as an obligation rather than a transaction. That unforced loyalty genuinely moves Meng Hao. (Chapters 1225–1226)

The Righteous Noble Sect siege

At the sect, Xu Ran teaches Meng Hao his self-created Seal the Heavens Incantation, whose extravagant full name matches Xu Ran’s theatrical personality. Meng Hao spends roughly a month recovering while Xu Ran prepares for the danger surrounding them. When hostile forces watch the sect and its teleportation portal, Xu Ran quietly arranges another escape instead of using the obvious route and exposing Meng Hao. (Chapters 1227–1228)

The escape reveals the cost hidden beneath Xu Ran’s boasts. His technique erupts with enough power to send Meng Hao away, but the exertion makes Xu Ran cough blood and visibly age. He stops escalating the battle because continuing would endanger his sect, then turns back after ensuring Meng Hao has a path out. His last supplied-text action therefore completes the promise implicit in his recruitment: he spends his own vitality and accepts separation from the disciple he wanted in order to keep both Meng Hao and the Righteous Noble Sect alive. Appearance and personality

Xu Ran is presented as a Daoist priest whose bearing can swing from impressive to ridiculous in a sentence. His disciples call him Noble Ran, while the nickname “Righteous Haowie” captures the flamboyant way he names and advertises his own Daoist magic. He is impulsive about recruitment and oblivious to the embarrassment he causes, but not shallow. Once he takes responsibility for Meng Hao, he remains protective in the face of a major bounty and pays a severe personal price rather than abandon him.

Three-Essences Dao Lord cultivation

Xu Ran is a genuine Three-Essences Dao Lord and one of the Righteous Noble Sect’s three Dao Realm pillars. His cultivation gives his eccentric promises practical force: he can escort a wanted cultivator through Heavengod Alliance territory and confront pressure that ordinary sect members could not survive. The text also establishes his relative standing as the second strongest of the sect’s three Dao experts.

Seal the Heavens Incantation

Xu Ran’s signature art is a self-created incantation with an intentionally grandiose name. Its outward presentation invites ridicule, but its actual release produces supreme force and can function as an emergency means of sending Meng Hao out of a watched, besieged area. The technique is not cost-free. Its use makes Xu Ran cough blood and age, showing that he converts a meaningful portion of his vitality or longevity into the result rather than performing an effortless teleportation.

Planning and protective judgment

His most important non-combat ability is situational judgment. Xu Ran recognizes that the sect’s formal teleportation portal is being watched, prepares a less obvious exit, and knows when further resistance would expose the entire sect to destruction. He combines personal courage with a willingness to retreat from pride: the objective is Meng Hao’s survival, not proving that his own cultivation is invincible.
