Third Mountain Xuanwu

Third Mountain Xuanwu is the colossal living turtle enthroned upon the Third Mountain and one of the nine Xuanwu foundations of the Mountain and Sea Realm.

Biography

The nine Mountains answer

The Third Mountain Xuanwu first appears when a Realm-wide portent draws a roar from each Mountain in succession. It joins its counterparts in facing the Ninth Mountain and later reacts to Meng Hao's vow, the Paramita Bridge, and the awakening of the Allheaven bloodline. The turtle is therefore characterized less as an isolated beast than as one node in a conscious system spanning the Nine Mountains and Seas. (Chapters 1056, 1066, 1149, 1200–1201, and 1280)

Defense of the Realm

As war engulfs the Mountains and Seas, the Third Xuanwu continues to respond with the Realm's collective will. All nine roar when the command to fight sounds, and nine beams rise from the Mountains to batter the net of the descending 1st Heaven. It also participates in the Realm-wide reaction to Meng Hao's Dao Sovereign breakthrough. No private speech or separate tactical choice is recorded; its important actions are cooperative acts of defense. (Chapters 1313–1315 and 1334–1335)

Fall of the Third Mountain

The Third Mountain is among the first Mountains physically annihilated during the Outsider invasion. As the Mountain crumbles into rubble and its people watch their home disappear, the Xuanwu atop it dies in agony. The destruction is explicit and final at the level of its physical body. Later chapters once again use the collective phrase “nine Xuanwu turtles” while describing the Grand Aegis and the World Butterfly's escape. Because the Third Xuanwu's death has already been stated directly, that language cannot safely be read as an unexplained resurrection. It may reflect lingering Realm power or collective shorthand, but the source does not decide between those possibilities. (Chapters 1396–1397)

Appearance and personality

It is an immense Xuanwu turtle positioned atop the Third Mountain. No individual colors, age, or facial details are supplied. Its awareness is shown through synchronized roars and its agonized death, while its conduct consistently connects it to the Realm and the other eight Xuanwus. The text gives no basis for a more individualized temperament.

Abilities and cultivation

The Third Mountain Xuanwu's demonstrated powers arise through its structural bond to the Mountain and Sea Realm.

Living Mountain foundation

The turtle exists upon and in close association with the Third Mountain. It senses major Realm-wide changes even when they originate far away, reacting with the other Xuanwus to bloodline and sovereign portents. Its death during the Mountain's collapse demonstrates the physical vulnerability of that bond: destroying the Mountain also destroys its living Xuanwu. (Chapters 1056, 1280, and 1373)

Nine-Xuanwu formations

In cooperation, the turtles channel a response powerful enough to produce nine beams from the Mountains and damage the 1st Heaven's net. The last defensive narration also connects their power to the Eight Seas, the Grand Aegis, and the World Butterfly's propulsion. These are formation-scale effects; no chapter isolates the Third Xuanwu's individual output, and the later collective use remains chronologically ambiguous after its death.
