Second Mountain Xuanwu
Second Mountain Xuanwu is the colossal sentient turtle enthroned atop the Second Mountain and one of the nine living Xuanwu foundations of the Mountain and Sea Realm.
Biography
Awakening of the nine Xuanwus
The Second Mountain Xuanwu first rises into the narrative when the Mountain and Sea Realm reacts to the portent of a new Realm Lord. Its roar follows that of the First Mountain's turtle and joins the response spreading from Mountain to Mountain. The nine turn toward the Ninth Mountain as one, acknowledging a change that concerns the whole Realm rather than any single territory. Later disturbances repeatedly stir the same collective awareness: Meng Hao's vow, the awakening of the Paramita Bridge, and the appearance of the azure Allheaven bloodline all cause the Xuanwus to tremble or howl. These scenes establish the Second Mountain Xuanwu as a sentient participant in the Realm's larger will, although the text does not give it a separate personal name or private motives. (Chapters 1056, 1066, 1149, 1200–1201, and 1280)
War and the Realm's last defense
When the Mountain and Sea Realm orders its inhabitants to fight, the Second Mountain Xuanwu joins the other eight in roaring toward the descending golden net. Nine beams rise from the Mountains and begin collapsing that barrier, turning the turtles' response into a direct Realm-scale attack. It continues to answer major changes in Meng Hao's authority and the Realm's war footing, including his Dao Sovereign breakthrough and the final mobilization against the Outsiders. (Chapters 1313–1315, 1334–1335, and 1370)
During the evacuation plan, the narration again invokes all nine Xuanwus. Their power reinforces the Eight Seas and helps form the Mountain and Sea Grand Aegis; moments later, they add momentum to the World Butterfly as it enters the escape tunnel. The supplied text never isolates the Second Mountain Xuanwu's fate after this collective effort, so its individual survival cannot be established. (Chapters 1396–1397)
Appearance and personality
It is a vast Xuanwu turtle seated upon the Second Mountain, part creature and part living foundation of an entire Mountain and Sea. Its individual features are not described beyond that colossal form. Its recurring conduct is collective and responsive: it roars with the other Xuanwus at Realm-wide portents, answers the Realm's command to fight, and contributes power to the final defense. Those actions demonstrate awareness and allegiance to the Mountain and Sea Realm, but not a distinct humanlike personality.
Abilities and cultivation
The Second Mountain Xuanwu's power is inseparable from its role as one of the Realm's nine Mountain foundations.
Mountain-bound existence and Realm perception
The turtle can sense transformations that reverberate through the whole Mountain and Sea Realm, including the rise of a potential Realm Lord, major bloodline awakenings, and the Realm will's commands. The text presents this perception through physical reactions—trembling, turning, and roaring—rather than explaining a separate sensory technique. Its connection is broad but not independent of the Realm: the strongest responses occur simultaneously with the other eight Xuanwus. (Chapters 1056, 1200–1201, and 1280)
Collective Mountain-and-Sea force
When all nine answer the command to fight, their roars are followed by nine beams of light from the Mountains that batter the golden net. In the final defense, the turtles bolster the wills of the Seas to form the Mountain and Sea Grand Aegis, then help propel the World Butterfly. These are collective formations and Realm mechanisms; the corpus does not quantify how much power belongs to the Second Xuanwu alone or show it reproducing those effects without the others. (Chapters 1315 and 1396–1397)
