Patriarch Huyan

Patriarch Huyan, personal name Huyan Yunming, is the first Spirit Severing patriarch whom Meng Hao fights as a sustained personal enemy. His vendetta over Huyan Qing expands into war against the Golden Crow Tribe and follows Meng Hao into the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane.

Biography

Patriarch of the Heavenly Pursuit Tribe

Huyan Yunming is the only Spirit Severing cultivator of the Heavenly Pursuit Tribe, one of the three great powers within the Heavenly Court Alliance. He has completed his first Spirit Severing but remains in secluded meditation for years to stabilize the breakthrough and repair the damage it caused. A black-robed Divine Clone handles ordinary affairs while his white-robed true self cultivates. His status gives his only son Huyan Qing a Nascent Soul retinue, life-saving jade slips, and confidence that no one in the Black Lands can hold him accountable. (Chapters 524–534)

Huyan Qing dies because the Black Bat uses him as bait, concealing the death long enough to direct Huyan's wrath toward Meng Hao. Yunming does not accept the apparent evidence blindly. He investigates the battlefield, notices that the son's protective treasures never activated, reconstructs the mismatch between the escort's deaths and Huyan Qing's death, and concludes that a third party manipulated events. Knowledge does not moderate the vendetta. He declares that no one has the right even to rebuke his son and decides to exterminate the killer's entire clan. (Chapters 533–535)

War against Meng Hao and the Golden Crow Tribe

The Divine Clone uses greater teleportation and vast divine sense to search for Meng Hao. Yunming also orders the Heavenly Pursuit Tribe to attack the Golden Crow Tribe, torture captured members, destroy their cultivation bases, and display them across the Violet Sea outposts. The strategy assumes that Meng Hao's totemic faith and attachment to his people will force him to appear. It succeeds in drawing him into the war, but fatally underestimates how strongly he will retaliate. (Chapters 534–539)

The clone confronts Meng Hao and the awakened Blood Mastiff over the Violet Sea. Its Spirit Severing Area initially confines weaker movement, while the Wheel of Time reverses injuries and withers hostile magic. Meng Hao and the mastiff coordinate repeated attacks, sever the clone's connection to the wheel, and take the treasure. The clone is eventually destroyed, but this is not Yunming's death: the true self remains alive elsewhere, and the distinction becomes central to their later encounter. (Chapters 540–548)

After Meng Hao breaks the Heavenly Pursuit army and reunites with the Golden Crow Tribe, Yunming's institutional power collapses along with his personal advantage. Yet the feud remains unresolved because the true self enters the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane with the other South Heaven cultivators. (Chapters 549–558)

Final ambush in the Demon Immortal Plane

Within the Third Plane, Huyan determines that Meng Hao cannot summon the mastiff or freely use ordinary bag-of-holding treasures. He learns the plane's secrets, lays a restrictive-spell ambush outside the Seventh Peak's forbidden area, and waits to recover a precious treasure of the Heavenly Pursuit Tribe. He believes that removing Meng Hao's borrowed Spirit Severing support restores the old gulf between them. (Chapters 603–604)

The calculation fails because Meng Hao has gained the Eighth Anima and a fleshly body approaching Spirit Severing. Yunming's Area, shields, Seven Emotions magic, Emotion Severing Extermination, expulsion art, dragon-headed blade, and life-consuming soul whip all fail in sequence as Meng Hao increases his Anima state. Yunming attempts to flee, then spends deeper reserves when escape is blocked. In the Eighth Anima, Meng Hao destroys his body with a single tap. The wounded Nascent Divinity escapes for only moments before Zhixiang captures and crushes it, absorbing the fragments to repair her cultivation. Huyan Yunming's true death therefore occurs in Chapters 606–607, not when his Divine Clone falls in the Black Lands. (Chapters 604–607)

Appearance and personality

Huyan's true self wears white and remains seated in meditation, while the Divine Clone wears black; the matching features make the relationship unmistakable. Later, the text presents him as an old man in the Demon Immortal Plane. He is intelligent, investigative, and cautious enough to reconstruct the deception behind his son's death, prepare ambushes, and flee when a battle turns impossible. Those qualities coexist with possessive cruelty. He openly admits that Huyan Qing behaved badly but treats bloodline privilege as immunity from judgment. Grief becomes a justification for torturing an unrelated tribe and threatening collective extermination. His final defeat is driven less by lack of perception than by an inability to relinquish revenge after his original assumptions have failed. (Chapters 534–539, 603–607)

Abilities and cultivation

First Spirit Severing and Area

Yunming has Severed his first Spirit, a breakthrough that requires years of stabilization and bodily recovery. His cultivation produces an Area, the defining governing power of his Spirit Severing path. When expanded, it shackles the surrounding space, increases pressure, and slows or confines targets as if they are submerged. A sufficiently powerful Spirit Severing-class body can break the Area directly, as Meng Hao does after his Demon Immortal tempering. (Chapters 534, 540–544, 604)

Divine Clone

The black-robed Divine Clone acts independently while the true self remains in seclusion. It manages tribal affairs, performs greater teleportation, sweeps enormous regions with divine sense, and carries Spirit Severing battle power. Destroying it removes a major projection of Yunming's authority but does not kill the white-robed originator. The clone's lack of an ordinary bag of holding reflects Spirit Severing practice: important objects can be kept in space opened inside the Nascent Divinity. (Chapters 534–548)

Wheel of Time

The ancient black chariot wheel releases Time power. Yunming can reverse blood and injury toward a prior state, wither an attacking divine ability into ash, and send the wheel itself crashing at an enemy. Control depends on a divine-sense connection. Meng Hao's Eighth Demon Sealing Hex briefly freezes Yunming, while the Blood Mastiff and other treasures displace the wheel and sever that connection, allowing Meng Hao to capture it. The wheel is therefore formidable but not autonomous or impossible to steal. (Chapters 542–544)

Seven Emotions and Six Pleasures

Yunming's Thirteen Transmigrations Dao manifests seven colored streams containing evil-spirit forms associated with the Seven Emotions. Its killing development, Emotion Severing Extermination, turns blood magical symbols into a Heavenly saber. The magic carries his severing path into direct attack, but Meng Hao's increasingly powerful fleshly body shatters both the streams and saber rather than being penetrated by them. (Chapters 604–605)

Expulsion arts

By joining his hands into a four-sided pattern, Yunming marks Heaven and Earth on one side and a target on the other, then invokes a crushing power of expulsion. In the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane, he also channels that world's natural law through a dragon-headed black blade, producing a truer environmental expulsion. These arts gain force from the plane, yet they also risk drawing the plane's own rejection when power exceeds its limits. Meng Hao's Seventh Anima survives and breaks the attack. (Chapter 605)

Soul whips

One whip associated with Yunming falls into Meng Hao's possession, and Yunming later pulls a matching red, illusory whip from his own body. The red whip attacks the soul and is fueled by Yunming's life force, visibly withering him as he forms it. That price makes it a desperate killing art rather than a routine weapon. Meng Hao catches it in the Eighth Anima, and later keeps it separate from the other whip while studying whether the pair should be fused. (Chapters 603–607)

Restrictive spells and pursuit

Yunming can prepare layered killing formations containing black figures, illusory blades, and lightning, while greater teleportation lets his clone pursue targets across the Black Lands and Violet Sea. The formation is effective against ordinary cultivators but cannot stop Meng Hao's enhanced Demon Immortal body. His pursuit methods repeatedly depend on preparation and superior realm pressure; when neither advantage holds, his defensive options collapse quickly. (Chapters 534–535, 603–605)

Relationships

• Huyan Qing: His only son; Yunming recognizes the son's misconduct yet treats his death as grounds for exterminating everyone tied to the killer.
• Meng Hao: Enemy blamed for Huyan Qing's death, destroyer of the Divine Clone, and eventual killer of Yunming's true body.
• Golden Crow Tribe: Meng Hao's people, whom Yunming attacks and tortures to force him into the open.
• Zhixiang: Captures the dying Nascent Divinity after Meng Hao destroys Yunming's body and absorbs it to repair her own cultivation.
