Ninth Sect Paragon

The Ninth Sect Paragon is the unnamed 7-Essences expert who guards the Ninth Sect during the rise of Meng Hao's clone, Fang Mu. He first treats Fang Mu as a strategic prodigy whose survival matters to the sect, then becomes a personal protector of Fang Mu and his apprentice Yan'er.

Biography

The Vast Expanse Shrines

The Paragon leaves seclusion when Fang Mu's performance in the Ninth Sect's Vast Expanse Shrine summons unprecedented heavenly signs. Once the Eighth Heaven appears, Fang Mu is no longer merely an Inner Sect disciple: he may become the Ninth Sect's defining Legacy disciple. The Paragon therefore leads the sect's Dao Sovereigns, Dao Lords, and other experts in dispersing the Tribulation Lightning gathering outside the Shrine. (Chapters 1462–1463)

Their protection has a boundary. They clear the lightning while Fang Mu is occupied with the Shrine's enlightenment, but when the Tribulation becomes explicitly his personal test, the senior cultivators withdraw and allow him to face it. Before that point, the Paragon publicly challenges Fang Mu to go further and summon the unheard-of Tenth Heaven. His encouragement is both faith and institutional ambition: Fang Mu's success raises the entire Ninth Sect. (Chapters 1464–1465)

Protection beyond cultivation

The Paragon later brings Paragon Streamcloud and a proposed Holy Daughter to Fang Mu's mountain to discuss a marriage alliance. The visit collapses when the young woman insults Fang Mu and Yan'er. Streamcloud tries to intervene, but the Ninth Sect Paragon blocks him, expels the visitors, and makes clear that continued defamation can escalate into war between sects. He is protecting more than Fang Mu's usefulness; he treats the dignity of the master and apprentice as something the Ninth Sect must defend. (Chapters 1475–1476)

After Fang Mu dominates all nine Shrines, the Paragon grants his request to enter the Transcendence Path. He opens a rift and descending staircase but warns that the Path is beyond even Paragon control: if Fang Mu reaches a point where he cannot continue, he should turn back. The warning identifies the exact limit of the Paragon's authority—he can open the entrance but cannot protect anyone inside. (Chapters 1479–1482)

Yan'er's five-year vigil

About a century later, Yan'er reaches the Dao Realm and repeats her master's request. Reports say Fang Mu died on the Path, and the Paragon regrets permitting the first journey. He refuses to open the portal again. Yan'er responds by prostrating before him without moving through spring, summer, and winter, persisting for five full years as her body and life force weaken. (Chapters 1487–1488)

The Paragon finally recognizes that continued refusal will not preserve her; it will only make her die where she kneels. He opens the staircase, pours a gentle force into her to remove the accumulated exhaustion, and softly asks her to return alive. The decision does not mean he believes the Path is safe. It shows that he accepts the limit of protective authority when it conflicts with a cultivator's settled Dao and life purpose. (Chapter 1488)

Appearance and personality

The local corpus does not give him a personal name or distinctive physical description. He is identified through rank, reclusive status, and authority over the Ninth Sect.

His temperament is measured, protective, and capable of change. He can disperse catastrophic lightning or threaten inter-sect war, yet he does not confuse strength with total control. His handling of Yan'er is especially revealing: he begins from grief-driven refusal, endures five years rather than casually reversing himself, then chooses compassion once refusal becomes another form of harm.

Abilities and cultivation

• 7-Essences Paragon cultivation: His realm makes him the Ninth Sect's highest directly shown guardian and gives him authority among Dao Sovereigns and Dao Lords. Fang Mu's combined sealing marks are measured as potentially powerful enough to shake a cultivator at this tier.
• Tribulation dispersal: A wave of his sleeve can destroy descending Tribulation bolts, and he leads the sect's experts against storms escalating from thousands to more than one hundred million bolts. He stops once the lightning becomes Fang Mu's personal trial, demonstrating both control and a cultivation-law limit.
• Transcendence Path portal: He can open a huge rift and call down the staircase leading to the Path. He controls entry from the Ninth Sect side, but events beyond the portal are explicitly outside even Paragon intervention.
• Restorative force: Before Yan'er enters, he sends gentle power through her body that removes five years of prostration-induced exhaustion and leaves her more vigorous than before.
• Paragon pressure and sect authority: He can stop another 7-Essences Paragon from interfering on Ninth Sect territory and back a warning with the possibility of sect war. The scene reflects both personal power and institutional standing.

Relationships

• Meng Hao's Clone: Disciple known to him as Fang Mu. The Paragon shields his Shrine enlightenment, protects his standing, and opens the Transcendence Path at his request.
• Yan'er: Fang Mu's sole apprentice. Her determination changes the Paragon's refusal into consent, and he restores her strength before letting her follow her master.
• Paragon Streamcloud: Peer whose marriage delegation the Ninth Sect Paragon hosts, then blocks and expels after its insult to Fang Mu and Yan'er.
