Sentient will and personification of the Ninth SeaNinth Sea

The Ninth Sea Will is the consciousness of the Ninth Sea itself, usually represented by a colossal woman's face formed from water. Its instinct to protect its own sea-born children brings it into irreconcilable conflict with Meng Hao, and fear of his promised judgment later helps drive it to betray the Mountain and Sea Realm.

Biography

Conflict over the Ninth Sea

The Ninth Sea is not merely terrain surrounding the Nine Seas God World. It possesses a vast will capable of preference, anger, and intervention. Its conflict with Meng Hao becomes explicit when it aids one of its own children against him. Laws binding the Sea prevent it from directly striking Meng Hao, but it can accelerate and empower the being he is pursuing. Meng Hao recognizes the indirect attack and silently resolves that when he controls the Mountain and Sea Realm, that realm will contain no Ninth Sea. (Chapters 1068–1069)

The Will can also obey the old order of the realm. At Godmaster's declaration that it accepts commands established by Paragon Sea Dream, the entire sea surges and raises a sword made of seawater to open the Windswept Door for the Echelon. This shows that its later betrayal is a decision by a powerful constituent of the realm, not proof that it was always incapable of cooperating with the Mountain and Sea system. (Chapter 1085)

Betrayal of the Mountain and Sea Realm

During the Mountain and Sea War, the Ninth Sea turns traitor at the moment Shui Dongliu's escape plan depends upon the integrity of the realm. The betrayal makes it harder for the Mountain and Sea Butterfly to escape and prevents additional survivors from reaching safety. Those who do survive remember the Ninth Sea as directly responsible for lives lost during their home's destruction. (Recounted in Chapter 1553)

The Will later argues that Meng Hao's oath to erase its consciousness left it no alternative. From its perspective, betrayal is self-defense against a future Lord who intends to end its people and mind. The survivors reject that justification because the choice sacrificed the entire realm to preserve the Sea. This conflict completes the consequence first set in motion when the Will protected its child against Meng Hao. (Chapter 1554)

Judgment at the Eighth Heaven

The reduced Ninth Sea is found fighting alongside the hostile Eighth Heaven during Meng Hao's return campaign. When his arrival disrupts the battle, the woman's face tries to retreat. A single command from the Transcendent Meng Hao locks its escape as if his words were natural law, while Mountain and Sea veterans turn their killing intent upon it. (Chapters 1553–1554)

Meng Hao rejects its attempt to transfer responsibility and declares that the restored Mountain and Sea Realm will not need it. An invisible grasp tears the face and sea into the flames overhead. The water burns away and the manifestation shrinks while screaming until only the Ninth Sea's soul remains. Its autonomous existence as the Ninth Sea Will therefore ends before Meng Hao begins calling the shattered Mountains and Seas back together. (Chapter 1554)

Appearance and personality

The Will manifests as an enormous woman's face within or made from the sea. Near its end, the once-boundless Ninth Sea has been reduced by battle, and fear is visible on the face when Meng Hao notices its attempted escape.

It is protective toward its own offspring, self-preserving, and capable of long-term resentment. Its stated motive for betrayal is coherent—Meng Hao had sworn to erase it—but its answer prioritizes itself over every other life in the realm. Even at judgment it frames the choice as something forced upon it, revealing an unwillingness to accept the cost imposed on the Mountain and Sea survivors.

Abilities and cultivation

  • Embodied sea consciousness: The Will animates and commands the Ninth Sea as a single vast entity. Waves, water, and the woman's-face manifestation are expressions of one mind rather than separate techniques.
  • Indirect intervention under law: Realm laws prevent it from directly attacking Meng Hao during the early conflict. It works around that limit by assisting its child, demonstrating both substantial reach and a binding restriction.
  • Windswept Door opening: Under Paragon Sea Dream's standing order, it makes the entire sea surge and raises an immense seawater sword that opens the route used by the Echelon. The act combines its water control with authority embedded in the Mountain and Sea system.
  • Realm-scale survival: Its consciousness survives the destruction of the original Mountain and Sea Realm and continues fighting from the Eighth Heaven. However, prolonged combat reduces the sea's physical extent and power.
  • Water-form regeneration and limitation: As a sea-being, it is not defeated like an ordinary body, but Meng Hao's Transcendent law can seize the total manifestation and expose it to flames until only a soul remains. Against him, scale no longer provides escape.

Relationships

  • Meng Hao: Their feud begins when the Will protects its child. His promise to remove the Ninth Sea contributes to its later betrayal, and he ultimately executes it after becoming a Transcendor.
  • Paragon Sea Dream: Her old command can compel or authorize the Will to open the Windswept Door, reflecting the hierarchy of the original realm.
  • Shui Dongliu: His escape plan is badly damaged by the Ninth Sea's betrayal during the Mountain and Sea War.
  • Mountain and Sea survivors: They hold the Will responsible for companions who could not reach the Butterfly and collectively demand judgment when it is captured.
