Ninth Mountain Xuanwu

Ninth Mountain Xuanwu is the ancient turtle within the celestial pond atop the Ninth Mountain. It is a guardian and living nucleus of the Mountain, distinct from both Ji Tian and Patriarch Reliance.

Biography

Detection of an Outsider

The Ninth Xuanwu first becomes active when Yi Fazi enters the Mountain and Sea Realm in an Outsider body. Its pain-filled howl alerts Dao Realm experts while the will of the Realm issues the command to kill Outsiders. The turtle remains part of that alarm through the pursuit and returns to its pond's sleep only after Yi Fazi dies. This establishes its earliest function as an involuntary sensor for life that the Realm rejects. (Chapters 1023–1026)

Bow to the possible Realm Lord

When Meng Hao's inheritance of the Demon Sealing legacy resonates with Paragon Nine Seals, the Ninth Xuanwu rises with the other eight. All nine turn toward the Ninth Mountain and Sea, bow, and announce the Realm Lord's return and the inscription of the Nine Hexes. The turtles cannot pinpoint or disclose Meng Hao's location, but their synchronized acknowledgment alerts every great power in the Realm. (Chapter 1056)

War of the Mountains and Seas

Meng Hao's Ancient Realm breakthrough again makes the Ninth Xuanwu howl as azure Paragon power appears. Patriarch Reliance joins that chorus as a figurative tenth turtle, but the narrative explicitly counts him in addition to the original nine. (Chapter 1280)

When Sima Dao's Outsider aura is exposed, the Ninth Xuanwu and its peers roar the Realm's death sentence. The threat of premature war from the 33 Heavens forces the Realm to pause, and the guardians fall silent with it. After Meng Hao kills Sima Dao anyway, all nine answer the order to fight; beams from their Mountains help collapse the golden net holding back the First Heaven. Their later roar marks Meng Hao's attainment of a true Dao Sovereign body. (Chapters 1313, 1315 and 1334)

Appearance and personality

The Ninth Xuanwu is an enormous ancient turtle that sleeps within a celestial pond on the Mountain. Its cries are archaic and emotionally cold except when Outsider intrusion causes visible pain and madness. It has no ordinary dialogue or private desire; its behavior is bound to the health and will of the Realm.

Abilities and cultivation

Outsider detection

It senses Outsider presence across immense distance and reacts even when political rulers have not. Its howl propagates the alarm to high-level cultivators, while the Realm's will supplies the judgment. The Xuanwu detects and announces; the text does not show it personally traveling to execute Yi Fazi.

Mountain nucleus

The nine turtles are described as the nuclei of their Mountains. The Ninth can rise from its pond, resonate with the sun, moon, and Realm authority, and contribute a Mountain-scale beam to coordinated defenses.

Realm-Lord recognition

It responds to power connected to Paragon Nine Seals and the future Realm Lord by bowing and issuing an archaic proclamation. This is recognition of office and inheritance, not proof that it independently chooses Meng Hao's policies.

Relationships

  • Meng Hao: His Demon Sealing inheritance and breakthroughs repeatedly trigger the Xuanwu's responses.
  • Other Mountain Xuanwu: Eight peer nuclei that turn individual reactions into Realm-wide declarations.
  • Ji Tian: Contemporary Ninth Mountain Lord; his office is separate from the Xuanwu's guardian role.
  • Patriarch Reliance: Separate turtle-shaped cultivator who joins one collective howl as a “tenth” turtle.

Items

No portable item is assigned to the Ninth Mountain Xuanwu. Its celestial pond and Mountain are inseparable parts of its role.
