Li Yan
Li Yan is a masked Dao Seeking competitor in the Three Great Daoist Societies’ recruitment trial. He gains enlightenment from ninety-five Immortal ruins, creates a world-melting black flame divine ability, and earns recruitment by the Bones of the Flamedevil before losing a costly arena battle to Chen Hao.
Biography
Immortal ruins
Li Yan first attracts attention after comprehending ninety Immortal ruins on the Dao Seeking Ancient Road. He and Meng Hao become the last two participants still advancing, and Li Yan reaches the ninety-fifth ruin before he can no longer locate another. The achievement exceeds the old record associated with Sir Fan and places him under direct observation by the patriarchs selecting disciples. (Chapters 853–854)
He uses the accumulated enlightenment to create a new flame divine ability. Black fire spreads across his trial world until sky and land begin to melt. Three deliberate breaths expand the sea of flames before a final inhalation completes the process. Seventeen three-hundred-meter stone steles descend in recognition, fewer than Meng Hao later receives but enough to establish Li Yan as an unparalleled Chosen in his own right. Competing sects argue over him, and the Bones of the Flamedevil secures him as a disciple. (Chapters 854–855)
Pressure trial and arena
Li Yan continues into the altar stage. He survives one hour in the crushing pressure outside his altar before being forced back, a significant feat even though Meng Hao later remains outside for four hours. Meng Hao attempts to sell him a restorative pill for an enormous price. Li Yan wants the advantage but refuses because he cannot verify the seller’s claim, showing caution amid exhaustion rather than simple stinginess. (Chapters 862–863)
In the arena, Li Yan remains among the competitors Meng Hao considers worth watching. His decisive match is against Chen Hao, a Chosen of the same Bones of the Flamedevil that recruited him. Li Yan removes his mask, reveals a face covered in scars, and fights until his power is exhausted. He does not enter the top thirty-two, but his attacks seriously injure Chen Hao. The result confirms both his limit against a stronger established Chosen and the danger he poses even in defeat. (Chapters 866, 869 and 871)
Appearance and personality
Li Yan is a young man who normally hides behind a mask. Beneath it, his face is covered in scars and his eyes burn with the desire to battle. He is proud after creating his flame art, yet guarded enough not to trust an unverified medicinal pill. His final match shows persistence rather than recklessness: he spends every reserve of strength and forces the victor to pay heavily.
Abilities and cultivation
Immortal-ruin enlightenment
Li Yan gains usable insight from ninety-five ruins, placing him near the front of the trial. The ruins provide fragments from which a participant must construct an original divine ability; raw discovery count alone does not create the technique. His seventeen recognition steles indicate the completed art’s quality.
World-melting black flames
His created divine ability ignites black fire across an entire trial world. Three breaths successively increase its coverage, and a deeper inhalation appears to complete or consolidate the phenomenon. The flames are hot enough to make the simulated world melt. The corpus does not show the art used against a normal opponent, so its casting cost, targeting, and real-world maximum range remain unknown.
Pressure endurance
Li Yan survives one hour outside the safety of an altar under force that rapidly exhausts Dao Seeking competitors. This demonstrates cultivation stability and endurance, although Meng Hao’s four-hour advance visibly surpasses him.
Arena combat
Li Yan can trade shocking attacks with Chen Hao until both are badly depleted. The narration does not name each technique used in that match, so it supports high offensive power and stamina but not a specific weapon or close-combat school.
