Biography

Master of the Fourth Mountain and Sea

Kṣitigarbha governs the Fourth Mountain and Sea, whose underworld administers death and reincarnation. He accepts Xu Qing as his disciple after her soul enters that system and personally guides her cultivation. When Meng Hao reaches her through a mental journey, Kṣitigarbha assures him that she is safe under his protection. His promise matters because it is backed by institutional as well as personal authority: the Yellow Springs, reincarnation, dead souls, and Yama King palaces all belong to the domain he commands. Although he remains distant from Meng Hao during the latter's rise, events elsewhere in the Ninth Mountain and Sea reach him through their effect on Xu Qing and his realm. He observes the azure light that spreads through the Fourth Mountain when Meng Hao attains his Allheaven Immortal state, while Xu Qing's rapid advancement later demonstrates the care and quality of Kṣitigarbha's instruction. First invasion

When the 33 Heavens begin their assault, Kṣitigarbha becomes one of the Mountain and Sea Realm's principal strategic defenses. An enormous statue surrounded by innumerable souls initially represents him, but the statue breaks apart to reveal a tall ancient man in yellow robes. He draws chanting and Joss Flame from the Yellow Springs, the Yama King palaces, and the beings who have revered him for tens of thousands of years. His own True Dao Sovereign cultivation approaches Paragon power; combined with that accumulated Joss Flame, it lets him stop an Outsider Paragon's pressure with one finger and retaliate with an enormous hand. The exchange briefly pales his face, showing that he can resist such force but does not ignore its cost. (Chapter 1316)

Imperial Lord Mandilo then targets him. Kṣitigarbha gathers the Joss Flame into a vortex that engulfs the invader, and their battle sets the Fourth Mountain and Sea ablaze with competing power: the Yama palaces and Fourth Mountain flames against Mandilo's black fire. With the home realm supplying him, Kṣitigarbha fights the Imperial Lord on equal footing. At the same time Xu Qing helps direct the Fourth Mountain's wider forces, making their defense a combination of his overwhelming local power and the strategic ability he cultivated in his disciple. Fall of the Mountain and Sea Realm

As the war expands, Kṣitigarbha is stationed on the moon, a Battle Weapon oriented toward defense. The location lets him focus the river of reincarnation, the sea of the Yellow Springs, and the Yama palaces into a coordinated defensive center. It also makes explicit a limitation of his greatest war power: he is strongest where the structures and accumulated faith of his own realm can answer him. He continues as one of the defenders' highest-level reserves until Shui Dongliu shrinks the surviving Mountain and Sea Realm and sends its cultivators through the escape tunnel. On the Mountain and Sea Butterfly, Kṣitigarbha is the only cultivator to witness Paragon Sea Dream's final passing. He mourns her, then stands watch while Meng Hao remains unconscious and the Immortal God Continent closes in. When the Butterfly's shield begins to fail, he leads the counterattack with Wang Youcai, the Paragon puppet, and the other survivors. Enemy Paragons still blast their formation backward and injure them, underscoring that his earlier Imperial Lord-level performance depended on the Fourth Mountain's accumulated power and did not make him invulnerable outside it. Meng Hao's awakening turns the battle before they are annihilated. (Chapters 1400–1401)

Rebuilding and return

Centuries after the Realm's destruction, Kṣitigarbha maintains the Mountain and Sea Butterfly's underworld and governs its reincarnation. His cultivation has reached the level of an Eight-Essences Paragon, a progression consistent with both his earlier True Dao Sovereign foundation and the long period of survival and rebuilding. When Meng Hao returns, Kṣitigarbha joins the former Mountain and Sea powers and their campaign against the 33 Heavens. His emotional response on seeing the restored Fourth Mountain and Sea—laughter mixed with tears—reveals how deeply his identity remains bound to the realm he once ruled and failed to save. Appearance and personality

Kṣitigarbha's true form is a tall, ancient old man in a long yellow robe. Before that revelation he appears through a gigantic statue encircled by countless souls, an image that fuses the person with the office of the underworld lord. When he summons his realm, scripture-like chanting sounds from the Yellow Springs and Yama palaces around him. (Chapter 1316)

He is protective, authoritative, and unwilling to accept submission as a virtue. After stopping a Paragon's pressure, he immediately answers the attack because being struck without striking back is incompatible with his Dao. That pride does not prevent tenderness: he teaches Xu Qing carefully, grieves Sea Dream in silence, and openly weeps with joy when the Fourth Mountain and Sea is restored. Abilities and cultivation

True Dao Sovereign foundation

During the invasion Kṣitigarbha is identified as the Realm's only true Dao Sovereign and the strongest Mountain and Sea Lord, below a Paragon in personal cultivation. This foundation allows him to resist Paragon pressure, but doing so visibly affects him, and stronger results require the power of his domain. (Chapters 1316 and 1322)

Joss Flame amplification

Worship and reverence accumulated over tens of thousands of years converge as Joss Flame. Added to his own cultivation, it raises his battle strength to the level of an Imperial Lord and lets him fight Mandilo evenly. Yellow Springs and Yama palaces

Kṣitigarbha can call on the underworld's river, palaces, chanting, souls, and flame as extensions of his lordship.
