Han Shan

Han Shan is an azure-robed Sword Immortal who searches three thousand years for his wife among the Bridge Slaves. He entrusts Meng Hao with limited sword power and later becomes a Reborn Demon Emperor before Meng Hao frees the couple from the Bridge.

Biography

The lonely swordsman

Han Shan silently shares an Immortality Bridgestone with Meng Hao for months, drinking from an apparently inexhaustible wooden flagon. He explains that people who sought eternal life surrendered their wills to the broken Bridge of Immortal Treading and became slaves eternally rebuilding what cannot be restored. His bleakness comes from searching those ranks for his wife, Xue'er, for three thousand years. (Chapter 460)

Before leaving, Han Shan offers Meng Hao a drink. He converts the alcohol into a temporary Alcohol Core and brands Dancing Sword Qi into Meng Hao's mind, allowing exactly two uses capable of killing anything below the Immortal stage. The limited gift establishes trust without handing an inexperienced Gold Core cultivator unrestricted access to Han Shan's full power. (Chapter 460)

Assault on the Bridge

Han Shan later attacks the palace controlling the Bridge Slaves to recover Xue'er. His Alcohol Qi multiplies into one hundred thousand likenesses, while an azure sword condenses the force into dragons, sword auras, and a world-like manifestation. The palace's ancient defender—identified at this point as the separate, original Frost Soil Demon Emperor—offers to reveal Xue'er if Han Shan kills every Bridge Slave within one hundred breaths. (Chapters 470–471)

Han Shan initially avoids harming the slaves because his wife may be among them, then accepts only after receiving assurance she is not outside the palace. Millions attack while his flagon pours out one hundred thousand swords. He fails to finish before the count, is wounded, and ultimately gives Meng Hao his sword, flagon, and Frigid-soil legacy along with a request tied to his unfinished purpose. The conflict binds Han Shan and Xue'er to the Bridge rather than ending their story. (Chapters 471–474)

Rebirth and rescue

By the time South Heaven cultivators travel toward the Primordial Demon Immortal Plane, Han Shan and his wife exist as paired lights within the Bridge. He is now called Reborn Demon Emperor Han Shan and can command the Bridge Slaves' collective will. He uses their soundless roar to awaken Meng Hao from the river-of-stars transport, repaying their earlier Karma. (Chapter 559)

Centuries later, Meng Hao returns with the completed Paragon Bridge and fulfills his promise. Its authority supersedes the broken Bridge of Immortal Treading and releases the couple. Han Shan awakens confused, recovers clarity, drinks again from the returned flagon, and promises that both he and his wife will answer if Meng Hao ever needs them. They relocate to Planet South Heaven. (Chapters 1198–1203)

During the Mountain and Sea War, Han Shan and Xue'er arrive together to support Meng Hao. Ice spreads across the starry sky with every step, and the text now calls him “Frost Soil Demon Emperor Han Shan.” This later title does not mean he was the ancient Frost Soil Demon Emperor who opposed him in Chapter 471; it marks the power or mantle Han Shan possesses after rebirth and liberation. Appearance and personality

Han Shan first wears azure robes and has an untrimmed beard, wrinkled clothing, and a wooden flagon. Disarray does not make him appear shabby; it reinforces a lonely, compelling presence. After rebirth he is described as scholarly and refined in green robes, with blankness relieved by tenderness toward his wife.

He is melancholy, patient, and absolute in loyalty. He can slaughter on an immense scale, but hesitates when any target might be Xue'er. Trust is equally lasting: once Meng Hao fulfills the promise, Han Shan treats gratitude as a permanent two-life debt.

Abilities and cultivation

Dancing Sword Qi

Han Shan fuses Alcohol Qi with sword intent. At full strength it can form vast cutting auras, an azure dragon, nine escalating bands of Sword Qi, and a combined Sword Soul. His gift to Meng Hao is deliberately capped at two activations and rated for targets below Immortality, showing that the branded version is a finite charge rather than mastery of Han Shan's cultivation.

Alcohol Core and flagon multiplication

The flagon's “alcohol” can form a core in another cultivator or pour out as swords. Han Shan creates up to one hundred thousand sword-bearing likenesses, distributing a mass attack across millions of Bridge Slaves. The technique provides scale, but even that scale cannot guarantee extermination within an externally imposed hundred-breath limit.

Frigid soil

Han Shan's later path spreads freezing force through the starry sky and is associated with Frigid soil, a material rich in Immortal qi rather than ordinary ice. A portion becomes Meng Hao's totem legacy. His later Frost Soil Demon Emperor title indicates matured authority, although the corpus does not say that he becomes identical to the earlier ancient emperor.

Bridge-Slave command

As a Reborn Demon Emperor within the Bridge, Han Shan can mobilize its innumerable slaves so their collective will crosses into the river of stars and awakens Meng Hao. This authority is tied to his bound state and the Bridge structure; after liberation, the text emphasizes frost and personal alliance instead.
