Fourth Mountain Xuanwu

The Fourth Mountain Xuanwu is the holy turtle of the Fourth Mountain, one of nine manifestations that embody the Mountain and Sea Realm’s authority and defenses.

Biography

Realm Lord recognition

The Fourth Xuanwu first acts as part of the ninefold response to the future Lord of the Mountain and Sea Realm. After the First Mountain’s turtle rises, the same awakening passes through the Second and Third Mountains and reaches the Fourth. All nine Xuanwu turtles rise into the starry sky, turn toward the Ninth Mountain and Sea, bow, and proclaim the Realm Lord’s return. Their united cry reaches cultivators across every Mountain and Sea. (Chapter 1056)

It later joins the howls that answer Meng Hao’s vow, his attempt to call upon the Realm, and his Heaven Trampling will. When the Paragon Bridge awakens, the turtles carry a cold order to the Mountain and Sea Lords and help call down killing intent from the sun and moon. Meng Hao’s Paragon blood causes the nine to recoil and the attack to stop. (Chapters 1066, 1149 and 1200–1201)

War and the Fourth Mountain

The Fourth Xuanwu howls with its counterparts when Meng Hao ignites the azure Paragon Soul Lamp, when the Realm detects Lord White as an Outsider, and when war begins. Its Fourth Mountain and Sea is the domain of reincarnation and the underworld, but the Xuanwu’s demonstrated functions remain the same Realm-wide functions shared by all nine nuclei. (Chapters 1280, 1313 and 1315)

The Fourth Mountain later enters a catastrophic destruction sequence as Mountains and Seas begin to shatter. The narrative does not separately describe the Fourth Xuanwu’s death, and subsequent chapters again describe nine Xuanwu turtles lending power to the surviving Realm’s final defense. The safest supplied-text account is therefore that the manifestation remains active in the collective force that creates the Mountain and Sea Grand Aegis and pushes the butterfly into the escape tunnel. (Chapters 1334–1335, 1370, 1373 and 1396–1397)

Appearance and personality

The Fourth Xuanwu is an enormous holy turtle associated with the celestial pond atop the Fourth Mountain. Like its counterparts, it speaks and reacts with archaic, impersonal force rather than an ordinary individual personality. It functions as a guardian mechanism with awareness: capable of reverence toward legitimate authority and killing intent toward Outsiders.

Abilities and cultivation

Living Mountain nucleus

Each great Mountain has a Xuanwu as its nucleus. The Fourth Xuanwu’s presence binds it to the Fourth Mountain and Sea and allows its cry to resonate through the regional population. It senses Realm-level changes immediately, regardless of their physical distance.

Collective proclamation

The nine turtles authenticate the arrival of the future Realm Lord by bowing and speaking as one. They also bear witness to vows and breakthroughs tied to the Realm’s succession. The Fourth Xuanwu’s contribution is inseparable from this collective office.

Sun-and-moon enforcement

The turtles can participate in issuing or enabling a destructive judgment from the sun and moon. Their command against the Paragon Bridge demonstrates enormous reach, but the attack can be checked by a superior Paragon inheritance acknowledged by the Realm.

Mountain and Sea Grand Aegis

In the escape battle, the Xuanwu turtles combine their strength with the Eight Seas and the Realm’s will. The resulting Grand Aegis protects the butterfly long enough to enter the tunnel, while the turtles add force to its movement. This is their clearest direct defensive application.
