The First Mountain Xuanwu is the holy turtle within the celestial pond atop the First Mountain, one of nine living nuclei that voice and reinforce the will of the Mountain and Sea Realm.

Biography

Recognition of the future Realm Lord

The First Mountain Xuanwu rises from its celestial pond when the signs associated with the Lord of the Mountain and Sea Realm appear. It opens its eyes, trembles, and releases a roar that fills the entire First Mountain and Sea. The other eight Xuanwu turtles answer in sequence. Together they turn toward the Ninth Mountain and Sea, bow, and announce the Realm Lord’s return and the future inscription of the Nine Hexes. Their sound is ancient, cold, and nearly mechanical, suggesting an office embedded in the Realm rather than an ordinary animal personality. (Chapter 1056)

The First Xuanwu continues to participate in collective responses to Meng Hao’s development. It howls when his vow shakes the Realm, when he calls upon Mountain and Sea power, and when his will of Heaven Trampling emerges. The nine turtles also transmit the Realm’s order to destroy the awakening Paragon Bridge, then fall silent when Meng Hao releases the aura of Paragon blood and refuses the command. Mountain and Sea War

When Meng Hao’s Paragon Soul Lamp ignites, the First Xuanwu joins the ninefold howl that recognizes his authority. It later roars when the Realm detects Lord White as an Outsider and when the will of the Mountains and Seas orders resistance against the descending First Heaven. These reactions link recognition of a future ruler with the turtles’ older duty to expose and oppose external enemies. (Chapters 1280, 1313 and 1315)

The Xuanwu turtles answer Meng Hao’s rise to Dao Sovereign and react when he lifts the azure bow. In the war’s final escape, the nine surviving manifestations surge from their Mountains, lend force to the Mountain and Sea Grand Aegis, and add their power to the butterfly’s movement into the tunnel. The First Xuanwu’s last supplied-text action is therefore collective but active: it spends Realm power to help the surviving population escape. (Chapters 1334–1335, 1370 and 1396–1397)

Appearance and personality

The First Xuanwu is a massive turtle housed in the celestial pond atop the First Mountain. It behaves as an ancient, impersonal guardian. Its voice is cold and emotionless during formal recognition, but its wartime roars carry killing intent. The narrative presents less an individual temperament than a living constitutional organ of the Realm: witness, alarm, judge, and source of defensive power.

Abilities and cultivation

Living Mountain nucleus

The Xuanwu is described as the nucleus of its Mountain and Sea. Its awakening resonates with everyone born in the First Mountain and Sea, allowing a single roar to reach an entire regional population. This bond also lets it sense Realm-wide events without traveling from the celestial pond.

Recognition and witness

Together with the other turtles, it recognizes signs of the future Realm Lord, bows toward the source, and bears witness to vows or breakthroughs that engage Mountain and Sea authority. This is not simple prophecy: the collective response helps authenticate events to cultivators throughout the Realm.

Realm enforcement

The nine turtles can direct or accompany destructive force from the sun, moon, and will of the Realm. In the Paragon Bridge incident, their roar precedes an all-destructive arrow. Meng Hao’s Paragon aura can shock and halt that enforcement, showing that the turtles operate within a hierarchy of Realm authority.

Grand Aegis support

During the final evacuation, the Xuanwu turtles combine with the Eight Seas and the will of the Realm to form the Mountain and Sea Grand Aegis. They then add momentum to the escaping butterfly. The feat is explicitly collective; no single Xuanwu produces the shield alone.
