Fang Danyun
Fang Danyun is the Fang Clan's Pill Elder and a principal authority in its Dao of Alchemy Division. He evaluates Meng Hao's alchemy, witnesses his rise, and ultimately emerges with Fang Yanxu to defend the clan during the rebellion.
Biography
Pill Elder of the Fang Clan
Fang Danyun is the only tier-nine alchemist in the Fang Clan's Dao of Alchemy Division. His name stands on the ninth level of the Medicine Pavilion stele, and even he has admitted defeat before some of the clan's legendary formulas. When Meng Hao demonstrates unprecedented command of plants and vegetation, Fang Danyun watches from his sacred mountain rather than allowing factional politics to distort his judgment. He concludes that the division has finally found a successor and sends Meng Hao the true Classic of Plants and Vegetation. (Chapters 908–918)
Meng Hao's attempt at the Skypalace Sunspirit Pill gives the Pill Elder a direct comparison. Fang Danyun can make the pill perfectly only on his own mountain during the centennial East Ascension Sun; at other times his success rate is one in ten and the quality is lower. Meng Hao succeeds by adapting every ingredient to the changing time, weather, Yang qi, and spiritual energy. Fang Danyun responds with excitement rather than jealousy and later watches Meng Hao surpass the Medicine Pavilion's records, trigger Pill Tribulation, and concoct formulas no descendant since the first Patriarch had completed. When the Dao bell names Meng Hao Lord of the Dao of Alchemy, Fang Danyun solemnly joins the division in recognizing him. (Chapters 922–934, 959, 1011–1016)
Hidden defender of the clan
During the rebellion, Fang Danyun reveals that alchemy has also been a means of preserving a failed Dao path. He once reached the peak of the Ancient Realm but failed to cross fully into the Dao Realm, becoming a Quasi-Dao Paragon whose power threatened to exhaust his life. Rather than descend into the madness common to dying Quasi-Dao experts, he dispersed that cultivation into countless Unicorn Immortals and lowered himself to at least ten extinguished Soul Lamps. This seal lets him preserve life while researching a pill that might open a new Dao. (Chapter 1000)
When three hostile Quasi-Dao experts descend on the Fang Clan, Fang Danyun recalls the Unicorn Immortals into himself and restores his Quasi-Dao aura. He knows that loosening the seal will accelerate his death, yet chooses to fight beside the terracotta soldier. Fang Daozi later tears his body open repeatedly and uses eldest-son bloodline authority to make loyal Fang blood burn, severely injuring him. Fang Danyun still kneels to the returning first-generation Patriarch and survives the founder's time reversal and purge. His concealed cultivation thus ends not in personal transcendence but in deliberate service to the clan he had spent years protecting through alchemy. (Chapters 1000–1004)
Appearance and personality
Fang Danyun is an elderly man with a full head of white hair who ordinarily sits in meditation on the division's sacred mountain. He is measured, curious, and intellectually honest. Rather than defend his seniority, he smiles when Meng Hao proves that a successor has appeared and openly recognizes techniques beyond his own reach. His restraint is equally important in cultivation: after failing the Dao Realm, he disperses dangerous power instead of letting Quasi-Dao madness control him. That patience has a firm limit. When the clan faces extermination, he willingly releases the seal even though the cost is the life he worked to preserve. (Chapters 915–924, 1000–1004, 1016)

Tier-nine Dao of alchemy
Fang Danyun possesses the division's highest formal alchemy rank. He can evaluate plant transformations, recognize when an experimental approach has found the correct principle, and concoct the Skypalace Sunspirit Pill under optimal solar conditions. His one-in-ten rate outside those conditions defines both his mastery and its limit. He cannot complete the Heavenly One Thought Pill and certain other ancestral formulas, while Meng Hao eventually does. Fang Danyun's greatness lies in understanding that result and transferring authority rather than denying it. (Chapters 908–924, 1014–1016)
Seven-colored flame and solar concoction
During the East Ascension Sun, Fang Danyun holds a seven-colored alchemical flame in his palm and forms a Skypalace Sunspirit Pill while seated among Unicorn Immortals. The centennial sun supplies a unique combination of timing, heat, and spiritual conditions that raises his success from uncertain to perfect. This is environmental synchronization, not the claim that he can reproduce the pill under any circumstances. (Chapters 924, 934)
Sealed Quasi-Dao cultivation
After failing to enter the Dao Realm from the Ancient Realm's peak, Fang Danyun externalizes the dangerous accumulated power into Unicorn Immortals. With the seal active, he displays at least ten extinguished Soul Lamps. Reabsorbing the insects does not borrow their cultivation; it returns portions of his own dispersed base until his Quasi-Dao aura is restored. The method delays death and preserves sanity, but releasing it reverses that protection and shortens his remaining life. (Chapter 1000)
Unicorn Immortal release
The Unicorn Immortals form a dense cloud around Fang Danyun. During release they explode into light and bore back into his body one after another, progressively unsealing his true level. This makes them both living vessels for cultivation and the mechanism that controls its return. The technique raises him enough to join a battle with three Quasi-Dao enemies, but does not make him a completed Dao Realm cultivator or protect him from Fang Daozi's superior bloodline and Essence power.
