Cold Wind Dao Reserve

The Cold Wind Dao Reserve is an unnamed Cold Wind Sect patriarch preserved in suspended animation after failing to reach the Nascent Soul stage. He awakens after the deaths of the sect’s expedition leaders and later witnesses the emergence of Patriarch Reliance’s true body. (Chapter 88) (Chapter 95)

Biography

Failed breakthrough and suspended animation

The Cold Wind Dao Reserve once attempted to advance beyond Core Formation but failed to become a true Nascent Soul cultivator. Rather than die immediately, he entered suspended animation and became one of the sect’s hidden reserves. This preserved him in a False Nascent Soul condition, powerful compared with ordinary Core Formation cultivators but fundamentally short of a successful breakthrough. The long preservation also leaves his body extremely withered. (Chapter 88)

Awakening and the mountain seal

The Horn of the Dao awakens him after the deaths of the Cold Wind Sect’s expedition leaders. Before his body has fully emerged from dormancy, he searches the memories of the Cold Wind Foundation Establishment Elder to learn what happened at the Reliance Sect. He then lends that elder the Freezing Jade and orders the surrounding mountains sealed while he completes his awakening. The sequence shows both his authority and his need for time: he can direct the crisis immediately, but cannot yet intervene in person. (Chapter 88)

Flight from Lord Revelation

He arrives with the Winding Stream and Upright Evening Dao Reserves and bows to Lord Revelation. When Lord Revelation reveals Spirit Severing power, the three patriarchs recognize the danger and flee his descending palm. (Chapter 92) (Chapter 93)

The Cold Wind Dao Reserve cannot withstand that difference in realm. He escapes the severed palm only by burning away part of his own cultivation to force greater speed, trading lasting power for immediate survival. Afterward, he watches in shock as the entire State of Zhao rises on Patriarch Reliance’s colossal turtle body. His final confirmed scene leaves him alive, but with cultivation lost during the escape and no demonstrated means of opposing the forces he has just witnessed. (Chapters 94–95)

Appearance and personality

He is an extremely withered old man, emaciated almost to skin and bones by his failed breakthrough and prolonged suspended animation. Within the Cold Wind Sect he is decisive and commanding, issuing orders before he has even fully awakened. That authority does not make him reckless. He bows when faced with Lord Revelation and flees as soon as Spirit Severing power reveals that resistance would be futile, showing a survivor’s willingness to recognize the limits of his realm.

Abilities and cultivation

False Nascent Soul cultivation

The Dao Reserve failed his Nascent Soul breakthrough and exists in a False Nascent Soul state. When the three State of Zhao reserves act together, their active power is described at the Great Circle of Core Formation. The “False” designation is an important limit: he has touched the next stage and exceeds ordinary Core Formation elders, but he does not possess the stable realm or power of a genuine Nascent Soul cultivator. (Chapters 88, 92)

Suspended animation

He can remain dormant for a prolonged period so the sect may preserve him as a last reserve. This technique delays death and makes his later awakening possible, but it is not effortless immortality. The withered state of his body and the time required to awaken demonstrate the cost and practical limitation of that preservation. (Chapter 88)

Even while awakening, he can project sufficiently powerful Spiritual Sense to search a subordinate’s memories. This lets him acquire the expedition’s history directly and make decisions without waiting for a spoken report. The technique is shown against a much weaker allied cultivator; the text does not establish that he could search an equal opponent’s mind so easily. (Chapter 88)

Cultivation combustion

When Lord Revelation’s Spirit Severing palm threatens him, the Dao Reserve sacrifices part of his cultivation to produce an explosive increase in escape speed. The method is effective enough to preserve his life, but its power comes from consuming his own cultivation base. It is therefore an emergency movement technique with a lasting cost, not speed he can sustain without consequence. (Chapter 94)

Relationships

  • Cold Wind Foundation Establishment Elder: A subordinate whose memories he searches and to whom he temporarily entrusts the Freezing Jade. (Chapter 88)
  • Lord Revelation: A seemingly honored senior whose displayed Spirit Severing cultivation forces the Dao Reserve to sacrifice power and flee. (Chapters 92–94)
  • Patriarch Reliance: The ancient figure whose true turtle body overturns the Dao Reserve’s understanding of the crisis in the State of Zhao. (Chapter 95)
  • Winding Stream and Upright Evening Dao Reserves: His counterparts from the other State of Zhao sects; they confront Lord Revelation and flee together. (Chapters 92–94)

Items

  • Freezing Jade: A Cold Wind Sect treasure the Dao Reserve lends to the guardian elder. It is used as part of the effort to freeze or seal the mountains surrounding the Reliance Sect while the patriarch finishes awakening. The article does not establish that the elder becomes its permanent owner. (Chapter 88)
