Blackpod Imp

The Blackpod Imp is an eyeless possessing creature created when Ghost Eye Beetles cannibalize one another during a forced transformation. Meng Hao subdues successive imps and stores them as compact black pods.

Biography

Creation in the Nine Seas God World

Meng Hao places groups of Ghost Eye Beetles in sealed chambers and supplies cultivation resources. Ten beetles disappear into a single enormous eye containing a black-shelled imp, showing that the transformation consolidates the group rather than simply maturing each beetle. The first imp breaks containment and tries to possess Meng Hao as his Life-Death Hex loses its grip. He subdues it, learns to control each new specimen separately, and names them Magical Pod Soldiers. (Chapters 1046–1047)

Early tests establish that an imp is stronger than ten original beetles and can return voluntarily to pod form for storage. Crimson training bodies resist possession, so the imps switch to tearing and eating flesh. Meng Hao gradually expands the group from ten to eleven and later to fifty, accepting the danger because their unusual attack bypasses many conventional defenses. Swarm weapon across the Realms

In the Windswept Realm, the imps possess living targets, expose clones, and attack manifested or nonstandard bodies through Divine Sense when possession fails. Their low individual possession rate matters less in a swarm: each failure still destabilizes the target’s mind. Meng Hao uses them as Dharma Protectors and as a hidden force against Ancient Realm enemies. (Chapters 1097–1127)

By the Eighth Mountain and Sea campaign, he commands hundreds. They enter Xu Clan cultivators, consume them from within, return with captured bags, and later defend Grandma Meng’s people during the Outsider invasion. Appearance and personality

An imp is pitch black, eyeless, and dominated by a huge gaping mouth, with a hard black carapace across its back. During its birth it sits inside an enormous Ghost Eye surrounded by ten tentacles. Its behavior is predatory and instinctive: it immediately chooses something to possess and becomes bolder as it absorbs bodies. Control comes from Meng Hao’s Life-Death Hex, not affection or natural obedience.

Abilities and cultivation

Cannibalistic transformation and pod state

A group of Ghost Eye Beetles is reduced to one imp inside a Ghost Eye manifestation. The exact internal process is not observed, but the result is stronger than all ten beetles individually. Once subdued, the imp can contract into a black pod and later emerge on command, making a large swarm portable. The required beetles and cultivation resources limit how quickly Meng Hao can manufacture more. (Chapters 1046–1047 and 1054)

Possession

Possession is the imp’s first attack: it enters a target’s body or manifested technique and disrupts control from within. Eleven together invade Elder Hai Sheng’s black heart, destabilizing both the construct and his borrowed cultivation. A sufficiently strong target can expel them—Hai Sheng does so by assuming his large Sea Dragon form—and some bodies cannot be possessed at all. (Chapters 1050 and 1068)

Failed-possession mind attack

When entry fails, the attempt becomes an attack on Divine Sense rather than accomplishing nothing. This lets a swarm pressure resistant targets repeatedly and helps reveal that an apparent body is a clone. The attacks are especially effective in numbers but do not guarantee control of a stronger mind. (Chapters 1107, 1112, and 1127)

Carapace, regeneration, and feeding

The black shell supplies exceptional defense, and injuries that would disable the original beetles are not necessarily serious to an imp. Imps recover while eating or absorbing enemy bodies and can chew through flesh when possession is unavailable. Their durability is not absolute; powerful blows can scatter them, and Meng Hao still treats simultaneous rebellion by eleven as dangerous enough to force him to flee. Combined scream

Multiple imps merge their piercing cries into a single disruptive sound. Eleven screams make Elder Hai Sheng’s manifested black heart fade and retract its surrounding fog before the imps enter it. The effect is strongest as a coordinated swarm and is distinct from the possession that follows. (Chapter 1068)
