Otus' Secret

Otus' Secret is a black metallic mask sold by the Floor Shop that conceals its wearer's information and alters visible physical traits. Kang Shin uses it to separate his public identities from his ordinary life until he reveals himself openly. (Chapters 40, 89, 147, and 181)

History

Masked ability-user identities

Shin buys Otus' Secret from Loretta for 50,000 gold while preparing to enter his first Event Dungeon without exposing his civilian identity. By imagining a slimmer and shorter form with longer grey hair, he confirms that the mask changes more than the portion of his face it physically covers. He registers as the masked ability user Yeon Hwawoo, receives a license bearing that appearance, and continues wearing the mask during public monster battles and visits to the New Moon Agency. (Chapters 40, 59, and 85)

The mask also lets Shin maintain a second public disguise as Thunder Knight. Before traveling to Britain, he changes his apparent hair to platinum blond, his eyes to red, and his build to differ from Yeon Hwawoo. This produces a third recognizable appearance distinct from both identities, helping him participate in international operations without immediately connecting them to one another. (Chapter 89)

Revival operations and retirement

As Revival begins clearing Event Dungeons against official resistance, Shin recommends Otus' Secret or comparable concealment to guild members. He later changes his own hair and eyes in front of reporters to identify Thunder Knight and Yeon Hwawoo as the same person while still withholding his civilian name. Once the Heroes of Shadow network is destroyed and Shin publicly reveals his real identity, he returns the mask to his inventory and concludes that he no longer needs it on Earth. The corpus does not record its destruction, transfer, or later reuse. (Chapters 124, 145, 147, 154, and 181)

Abilities and properties

• The mask prevents other people from reading the wearer's information. The corpus does not define which appraisal powers it defeats or establish that the concealment works against every higher-ranked observer. (Chapter 40)
• It changes height, body build, hair length, and hair color according to the wearer's imagined appearance. Shin also changes his apparent eye color while wearing it. (Chapters 40, 89, and 147)
• Otus' Secret is a black metallic half-mask covering the forehead, eyes, and nasal bridge. It leaves the mouth and jaw physically exposed, but the accompanying changes to body and facial presentation make the remaining features less identifying. (Chapter 40)
• The mask does not provide a demonstrated combat statistic, defensive effect, or voice change. Shin still uses helmets and armor over or alongside it when additional physical protection is required. (Chapters 40, 59, and 154)
• It is a Floor Shop item rather than a unique artifact: Shin can recommend that other explorers buy one for their own concealed operations. No upgrade or transformation is shown. (Chapters 40, 124, and 145)
