Shin Su-bin

Shin Su-bin is an elderly amputee remembered among Noh Do-hwa's former patients and later encountered on Seok-hwa's pilgrimage. Dependent on a custom prosthetic for his missing right foot, he gives the device away and sacrifices his remaining mobility for the religious leader he follows. His burned death in Sinuiju is certain, while the identity of a later moving or encountered body remains anomalously unresolved. (Chapters 85 and 333–337)

Biography

The patient who surrendered his footing

Su-bin first appears through his connection to Noh Do-hwa's earlier prosthetic work, a patient whose continuing welfare remains part of the human cost she remembers. Much later, Undertaker meets the elderly man following Seok-hwa across the country. Lonely, devout, and physically dependent on the device replacing his right foot, Su-bin nevertheless gives that prosthetic away to support the monk and continues the pilgrimage at severe personal cost. After a private conversation with Undertaker, Su-bin is found burned to death in Sinuiju. A later encounter with the kneeling or animated burned body does not safely establish that the living man returned; an Anomaly may be using the remains or his image. The distinction preserves his human act of sacrifice without assigning him a resurrection or supernatural ability that is never confirmed. (Chapters 336–337)

Appearance and personality

Su-bin is an elderly Korean man missing his right foot and reliant on a custom prosthetic made by Noh Do-hwa. The loss makes his decision to surrender the device especially consequential. He is humble, loyal, lonely, devout, and willing to accept immobility for someone he believes in. His quiet manner does not eliminate private motives, which Undertaker investigates before the death in Sinuiju. (Chapters 85 and 333–337)

Abilities and skills

No supernatural ability is established. Su-bin's endurance is human, constrained by age, amputation, and dependence on a prosthetic. His importance comes from loyalty and sacrifice rather than combat or Awakening.
