Mo Gwang-seo

Mo Gwang-seo is a Korean cult leader whose staged self-immolation turns him into a genuine Resurrection Anomaly. His smiling returns make him the sacred center of the Eastern Holy State, but the miracle costs him most visible free will. The Regression Alliance consequently treats his undying body as a political symbol, puppet, and dangerous source of replacement organs rather than as an autonomous messiah. Biography

The false Christ who returned

Gwang-seo begins with the confidence and spectacle of a self-proclaimed savior, arranging a fatal public immolation as proof of faith. Death unexpectedly produces the miracle he advertised: he returns in brilliant light, still wearing a kindly smile, and can repeat the process after further killings. Followers organize a new church around the resurrection, while the alliance recognizes that the returned figure no longer displays the initiative or personality of the man who staged the event. (Chapters 124–126)

The alliance turns that passivity into infrastructure. Lee Ha-yul controls his body, and his image is projected as a constellation above the Eastern Holy State while Sim Ah-ryeon serves as its northern saintess. Later, his regenerative tissue is tested against Village Bus No. 44. Transplanted parts can replace destroyed human organs, but excessive replacement transforms recipients toward anomalous copies or angels, making his apparent healing value inseparable from contamination. Appearance and personality

Gwang-seo is a generic-looking middle-aged Korean man with an unfocused gaze and a constant, benevolent smile. Before resurrection he is confident, theatrical, and willing to make his body the centerpiece of a religious spectacle. Afterward, the fixed expression remains while ordinary initiative largely disappears. Speech and movement in later scenes may belong to whatever controls or inhabits the resurrecting body rather than to the original showman. (Chapters 124–127)

Abilities and skills

His defining anomaly is immediate resurrection after virtually any death, announced by bright light and a restored body. Removed tissue also regenerates and can function as replacement organs in humans. The benefit has a severe limit: extensive transplantation can overwrite the recipient with Gwang-seo-like anomalous traits. No other innate combat, healing, or leadership power is established beyond the resurrection phenomenon and his earlier skill at religious performance. (Chapters 124–127 and 237)

Relationships

• Lee Ha-yul: Ha-yul controls Gwang-seo as a puppet, allowing the alliance to use his body and religious image even after his personal agency fades. (Chapters 126–127)
