The World-Phoenix Token is the red tablet carried by Jason from the moment he arrives on Pallimustus. Although its effect is initially hidden, it is a seed of the World-Phoenix’s power placed into his soul during his passage through the deep astral. (Chapters 1, 259, 566)

History

Jason discovers the token among his earliest possessions and identifies it only as a transcendent, legendary consumable whose effect he cannot read. The mystery shapes his decisions because he gradually learns that it offers a path home and protection against death, while Shade deliberately withholds part of what he knows. Shade fears that certainty about resurrection would encourage Jason to sacrifice himself before the token can return him safely. (Chapters 1, 46, 126, 258–261)

When Jason dies, the token is consumed and reconstructs him at his place of birth on Earth. It restores him in a magical outworlder body and presents him with an optional evolution of Astral Affinity into Nirvanic Transfiguration, a blessing tied to the World-Phoenix. Jason later learns that the great astral being gave him the tablet while his soul crossed the deep astral from Earth to Pallimustus as one of many such seeds. (Chapters 258–261, 566)

Properties and use

The token’s primary function is a single resurrection combined with transit to Jason’s home world. It is not a repeatable revival device: the tablet disappears when used, and the special circumstances surrounding Jason’s soul and inter-world passage are integral to the result. Its blessing also offers rather than forces the racial-gift evolution, preserving Jason’s choice at the moment of return. (Chapters 258–261)

The evolved Nirvanic Transfiguration becomes enormously consequential, but it is an effect granted through the consumed token rather than an object Jason continues to carry. The token therefore ends as an item when it activates; later resurrections and transformations rely on Jason’s developing soul and other bargains, not on a surviving World-Phoenix tablet.
