Sentinel’s Orb

The Sentinel’s Orb is a fist-sized growth item that refines barrier energy and forms a matched set with the Sentinel’s Crown. Clive gives both to Neil after finding them in a Reaper-trial tower, aligning the treasure with the teammate best able to use it. (Chapters 169, 235)

History

The orb is one half of the equipment displayed beneath an adventurer statue at the top of a dangerous tower. Clive and Valdis carry the unclaimed pair back and recount their expedition before presenting it to Neil. Clive rejects Neil’s concern that the gift is excessive, making survival of the team—not ownership of the loot—the reason Neil should accept it. (Chapter 169)

Neil ranks up his growth items before Jason’s sword reaches bronze. The orb is not reported to gain a new effect during that first advancement, but its existing properties already enhance the shields around which Neil builds much of his defence and support. It remains paired with the crown rather than treated as an isolated treasure. (Chapters 169, 235)

Properties and use

The orb increases the effect of shield-based essence abilities and reduces their cooldowns. It refines powers Neil already possesses rather than generating a free-standing barrier, so its usefulness depends on a wielder with shield abilities. Stronger shields and shorter intervals let him protect teammates more consistently, but each activation still operates within the underlying power’s costs and limitations. (Chapter 169)

When Neil wields both Orb and Crown, his shields bestow a healing-over-time effect. The Crown separately adds mana recovery to those shields, producing a defensive package that restores both body and magical reserves. The orb’s special healing rider is conditional on the complete matched set; without the crown, only its general shield-strength and cooldown effects are established. (Chapter 169)
