Administration under pressure

Vincent discovers that records for previously successful applicants have somehow vanished after aristocratic families seek another opportunity to connect with Rufus. Unable to undo the political manipulation alone, he chooses transparency: he explains the interference, conveys Elspeth's apology and helps Rufus apply “punishing rigour.” That decision turns a compromised reassessment into a test the protected candidates cannot casually purchase their way through.
