Vermillion

Vermillion, whose full name is Craig Vermillion, is an Australian vampire operative feared in both criminal and Network circles. His abrasive humour and loyalty to Anna coexist with a growing responsibility to vampires struggling to remain people after Earth's magic changes. (Chapters 265, 424, 973)

Biography

A vampire chooses a community

Vermillion begins as the Network's “boogie man,” using the fear surrounding vampires to solve problems others cannot approach openly. He nevertheless refuses automatic solidarity with predatory ancients and supports Anna during negotiations with Jason. After the vampire wars destroy most of his hidden civilisation, he accepts sanctuary in Jason's domains and confronts him over Elizabeth, choosing to advocate for justice even while acknowledging that his remaining people depend on Jason's protection. Magic and abilities

Vermillion has vampiric strength, predatory presence and the coercive reputation needed for covert enforcement. Animals and criminals sense the danger around him before he acts. His power is constrained by the same blood hunger and changing magical environment threatening other vampires, making sanctuary and specially prepared nourishment essential to retaining his humanity. • Anna Tilden: Vermillion is fiercely protective of Anna and refuses to excuse anyone who has tried to control her. (Chapter 424)
