Taika Williams

Taika Williams is a New Zealand-born essence user whose enormous frame, good humour, and practical instincts make him one of Jason Asano's most dependable Earth allies. He chooses a fast garuda-confluence build instead of accepting the slow, durable role others expect from his size, then grows from Hiro Asano's security man into a silver-rank expedition fighter and gold-rank Asano Clan protector. Biography

Earth’s hidden magical war

Taika meets Jason while working security for Hiro Asano. He warns the apparently smaller man away from a dangerous confrontation, then quickly recognises that Jason's confidence is based on capability rather than bravado. Taika's loyalty to Hiro is rooted in family experience: after he and his brother were pulled into gang trouble in New Zealand, their father moved the family to Australia, teaching Taika that strength is valuable when it keeps people out of cycles that otherwise consume them. When Jason reveals magic to his relatives and trusted allies, Taika responds with curiosity and humour rather than denial. He helps the Asano family absorb one impossible fact after another and volunteers for the transition himself. Offered a durable but slower essence set, he rejects the role assigned by his build and chooses speed, strength, and skill. Jason secures the rarer wing essence, and Taika's might, swift, and wing combination produces the garuda confluence he wanted. (Chapters 291–292, 323)

Farrah takes charge of adapting Taika's existing fighting ability to an iron-rank body whose strength and speed no longer obey ordinary limits. His rapid progress wins him a position as an external auxiliary to Network tactical teams, where early shock at facing real monsters gives way to effective close combat. By bronze rank he accompanies sensitive negotiations, restrains allies before arguments become fights, and challenges Network narratives that excuse attacks on Jason. When Jason leaves Earth, Taika remains among the trusted clan circle in France, his instincts reliable enough that people depend on the large, joking “bro” to recognise danger and lower the temperature. Yaresh and the messenger war

After the Earth crisis, Taika's family and allies gain protection in Asano-controlled domains, while a dimensional anomaly involuntarily carries him into the more demanding adventuring culture of Pallimustus. By the time Jason's circle moves on from Rimaros, Taika is still bronze rank and trying to find a place among stronger companions. Training with Farrah, Rufus Remore, and Humphrey Geller exposes the gap between fighting monsters as an auxiliary and holding a place in a high-rank team. Lacking an established formation leaves him on the margins, motivating him to pursue silver without pretending enthusiasm alone can replace experience. (Chapters 502, 582, 614, 626, 652)

The messenger war turns that preparation into identity. Taika rejects recruitment from a messenger who tries to exploit resentment against Jason, and his resistance to the brightheart array's influence reflects the will that the messengers' suborned servants often lack. In battle he discovers that his transformed garuda body is formidable but not universally suited: eagle features, wings, talons, emerald defensive skin, and explosive strength dominate at close range, while cramped corridors deny him the space needed to build his best momentum. At silver rank, Taika's first major battle clarifies his place beside Team Biscuit. He is not a sustained frontline brawler in Humphrey's mould but a high-speed initiator who charges through formations, disrupts stronger enemies, and creates openings for teammates to finish. During the brightheart defence, he and Humphrey lead hard-hitting counterattacks against the elemental messenger horde. Taika is still learning the team's Jason-named tactics, yet already contributes as one of its two high-impact adventurers rather than a protected trainee. (Chapters 706, 753)

Taika later chooses to return to Earth, where expedition experience becomes institutional responsibility. He helps Rufus enter Asano Clan life, works around the clan's main training facility, and continues serving as a trusted combatant. By gold rank he can join Team Biscuit operations, transform into a golden eagle to isolate enemy healers, and provide professional protection during high-level political meetings. Appearance and personality

Taika is a towering Māori man whose body is repeatedly compared to a small mountain. Before taking essences he is broadly massive; by bronze rank the same bulk has become densely muscular. He generally prefers large, loose clothing, making the fitted dark suit he wears on security duty conspicuous. His deep physical presence contrasts with a surprisingly high-pitched voice and an unmistakable New Zealand accent. (Chapters 262, 424, 983)

His garuda transformations add avian traits at increasing scale. In a hybrid combat form he grows an eagle's head, red-and-gold feathers, wings, and talons, while a defensive effect turns his skin emerald green. He can also assume a giant bird or golden-eagle form for speed and aerial capture. These shapes are practical combat states rather than a change in identity; Taika's speech and humour remain immediately recognisable. (Chapters 673, 706, 936)

Taika is friendly, irreverent, and habitually calls almost everyone “bro,” but the casual manner hides close observation. He identifies dangerous confidence when he first meets Jason, notices suspicious explanations, and asks direct questions when fear or uncertainty would otherwise go unspoken. He does feel fear during extreme missions, yet chooses based on who needs him and what his team can accomplish rather than performing recklessness for its own sake. (Chapters 262, 424, 685, 749)

Magic and abilities

Essence set and garuda confluence

Taika's essence set is might, swift, and wing, producing the garuda confluence. He chooses it after rejecting a slower immortal-confluence proposal, explicitly seeking speed, power, and fighting skill rather than allowing his size to define him as a stationary tank. The resulting set overlaps with Humphrey's might-and-wing foundation but develops toward a different tactical role: Taika is a mobile impact fighter who needs room to accelerate. Farrah's training is essential because essence advancement magnifies capabilities Taika already possessed. His iron-rank body lets him fight monsters directly; bronze rank reshapes his physique and aura; silver rank completes a suite of charge combinations; and gold rank expands his perception and transformation power into high-level security and team operations. Progress does not remove environmental constraints. Tight passages limit his wings and acceleration, while repeated maximum-output charges consume substantial mana and stamina. Charge combinations and momentum

Momentous Charge is the centre of Taika's silver-rank battle style. It consumes high mana and stamina, carries him extreme distances through the air, and builds Momentum that increases the impact of his arrival. Its four-minute cooldown means it cannot be used casually, but movement combinations and other abilities can help reset or exploit the resulting force. The charge is most effective in open air, where Taika can select a line and reach full speed before contact. (Chapter 706)

Unstoppable Strike converts that motion into a barrier-breaking melee attack. It doubles the damage supplied by Momentum, adds disruptive force, breaks restraints and obstacles, and resists attempts to halt Taika's movement. At silver rank it can refresh through the same movement sequence that feeds the charge. The combination is devastating against formations and rigid defences, but arresting his momentum or denying him a viable approach reduces the advantage before the strike lands. (Chapter 706)

Taika chains these powers through Speed and Power and Relentless Attack, resetting special attacks as he keeps moving and escalating pressure across a battlefield. This makes him excellent at repeatedly throwing enemies out of position, not necessarily at finishing every target alone. The sequence is resource-intensive, and his first silver-rank battle emphasises that allies capitalise on the chaos he creates. His role resembles heavy cavalry: break the line, keep it unstable, and let the formation behind him exploit the breach. (Chapters 706, 753)

Avian forms, defence, and survival

Block Out the Sun supplies bird, giant-bird, and golden-eagle forms built for high-speed flight. At silver rank, movement accumulates wind that Taika can release as compressed-air attacks without ending his charge. He can also manifest wings without completing a full transformation, while the hybrid garuda form adds talons, reflexes, and strength for close combat. The forms are versatile across air and ground, but tunnels and crowded interiors can turn wingspan and speed into liabilities. (Chapters 673, 705–706, 936)

Taika's set includes strong durability and a potent survival power called Immortality, which parallels one of Humphrey's abilities. His emerald defensive skin demonstrates direct protection, while his supernatural physique lets him survive the forces generated by his own charges. The precise activation conditions of Taika's Immortality are not demonstrated, and none of these safeguards make him invulnerable: strong enemies can still injure or restrain him, while his offence retains its resource and positioning demands. Teamwork, instruction, and security

Taika begins with practical fighting and security experience, then learns formal aura control, monster tactics, and team communication from Farrah and Jason's wider circle. By silver rank he can coordinate with Team Biscuit during large battles even while still learning their named manoeuvres. By gold rank he combines long-range perception, professional perimeter procedure, aerial pursuit, and physical protection, making him useful in both open combat and politically sensitive security assignments. His later work around the Asano Clan training facility turns personal growth into instruction and community defence. Taika understands the difference between teaching someone to fight and teaching them when not to fight, a distinction consistent with his own path from criminal-adjacent security work to disciplined adventuring. His limitation as an instructor is not magical but experiential: he relies on veterans such as Farrah and Rufus for traditions and methods beyond what Earth's improvised magical institutions could teach him.
