Biography

Art through upheaval

Susan meets Jason when he visits her gallery and studies paintings created by Dawn through an intermediary. Her relationship with Anna draws her into the consequences of Jason’s Earth conflicts, from relocation into protected territory to travel through magical cities, but she retains her own priorities rather than becoming a political accessory. After European cities are abandoned, Susan spearheads a project recovering endangered art and builds a major collection. She also keeps reaching toward strained friends, inviting Farrah to dinner through Anna when direct contact would risk becoming another demand on her. (Chapters 274, 384, 910–913, 955, 975)
