Biography

Reaper trials and the Builder crisis

Jory meets Jason while gathering inexpensive plants in the Greenstone delta and offers the displaced stranger a ride into the city. He explains that his family has money but that he lives in Old City and reinvests what he earns into making alchemical products simpler and cheaper. The Church of the Healer's hostility, including public harassment of his clinic, does not change that aim. By choosing thin margins and broad access, Jory turns professional ambition into a direct answer to unequal care. (Chapter 35)

His kindness also has consequences beyond medicine. Jory wants Sophie and Belinda helped but lacks the power to confront Greenstone's entrenched authorities himself; Jason acts because a friend cares enough to ask. During the Reaper trials, Jory steps outside his usual civilian role as one of a temporary team's two healers, supplying potions while supporting defenders with buffs, shields and healing. He is cheerful, talkative and socially open, offering Jason food, transport and local knowledge without ceremony. His patience is not passivity: he continues affordable healing work while being branded a heretic and later enters a lethal astral trial to support others.
