Jali Corrik Fen is a silver-rank messenger born at her permanent advancement limit. Treated as expendable by higher messengers, she questions the supremacy doctrine that justifies her place and becomes increasingly receptive to Jason's alternative model of power and belonging. Biography
Choosing beyond the astral king's mark
Jali is ordered to deliver a dangerous device because Jes Fin Kaal considers her too unimportant to protect. She hides dissatisfaction from the astral king's mark on her soul, meditates in secret and recognises that supposedly lesser species often exceed her people in courage and ability. Meeting Jason confirms that messenger hierarchy is not cosmic truth. She later remains in his kingdom and earns enough trust to stand beside him during negotiations, choosing service that permits questions instead of obedience enforced through branding. Magic and abilities
Jali has the inherent flight, aura senses, shroud and light-based powers of an adult silver-rank messenger. She cannot advance beyond silver because of an inborn limit, and the astral king's soul mark monitors dangerous disaffection. Her careful emotional control and meditation are therefore survival skills as much as personal discipline. (Chapter 736)
