Hester is the widely travelled portal specialist on Emir Bahadir’s staff.

Biography

Opening the expedition’s road

Hester enables the rescue expedition to reach Boko and the desert aperture when ordinary travel would cost critical time. Her portal can carry even gold-rank Emir because that specific ability has advanced beyond her own silver rank, but distance, cooldown, traveller rank, and prior familiarity with the destination all constrain each opening. She manages those limits carefully, moving groups in stages rather than promising impossible capacity. (Chapters 108–113)

Her usefulness continues beyond emergency transport. Hester returns rescued people to Greenstone, moves Jason and allies during operations, and hosts Team Biscuit when their travels reach her home city and extended family. The hospitality grounds a power defined by constant departure: her wide travel history expands where she can open doors, while family gives those routes a place to return to. Skills and abilities

Hester is silver rank with a portal power advanced to gold. She can open long-range gateways only to places she has personally visited; greater distance lengthens the cooldown, and higher-rank travellers consume far more of the portal’s capacity. These constraints make route knowledge and scheduling as important as raw power. (Chapters 109, 113, 147)
