Hanma God Relic

The Hanma God Relic is the descriptive name for the key-like artifact that bonds with Jack Hanma inside a Shadow Window. It is initially assumed to belong to his God Clan because his bloodline can open its container, but later evidence identifies it as a Sacred Treasure of the Shadow Supreme whose appearance in the Window has no fully resolved explanation.

History

The key in the Window

Neo and Jack find an undamaged briefcase in a ruined office within the Shadow Window. Neo cannot open it and concludes that the God Relic inside does not answer his own bloodline. When Jack Hanma places his hand on the case, it unlocks. The case contains a map and a key, but only the key is the Relic; the map remains a separate object that Neo studies. (Chapter 120)

The moment Jack touches the key, it crumbles into black motes and enters his finger. The fusion is painful, but it gives him the ability to open the Window after developing enough mastery. Faced with a sealed escape route and an army of Shadow monsters, the bonded Relic becomes the means by which Jack and Neo can eventually leave. (Chapter 120)

The Shadow Supreme's Sacred Treasure

Thousands of years later, black lines spread over Jack's forearm and form intricate, faintly glowing tattoo-like patterns as he invokes the Relic against the Alliance Gods. He remembers using its power to open a rift and escape the original Window with Neo. The artifact has therefore remained fused with him rather than being consumed and exhausted by its first use. (Chapter 756)

Jack's search for its origin undermines the early Hanma identification. The Hanma Akashic Record contains no maker, ancestor, or earlier record of the Relic; its traceable history begins only when Jack brings it out of the Window. When he later shows the fused Relic to Nyxtharion, she recognizes her grandfather's energy signature and identifies it as the Shadow Supreme's Sacred Treasure. Why it responded to Jack's bloodline and waited in that particular Window remains unresolved. (Chapter 756)

Properties and use

  • Bloodline response: The container refuses Neo but unlocks when Jack touches it, leading both men to initially classify the Relic as belonging to the Hanma bloodline. (Chapter 120)
  • Permanent fusion: The black key loses its solid form and enters Jack's body as motes, remaining bonded for millennia. (Chapters 120 and 756)
  • Window opening: The Relic lets Jack open a sealed Shadow Window or rift, although he initially needs time to improve his mastery. (Chapters 120 and 756)
  • Manifested markings: When activated later, its presence appears as intricate black tattoo-like lines spreading across Jack's forearm and pulsing with power. (Chapter 756)
  • Unrecorded origin: Hanma records do not contain its creation or history before Jack removes it from the Window. (Chapter 756)
  • Sacred Treasure identity: Nyxtharion recognizes the Shadow Supreme's energy signature in the Relic, superseding the assumption that an ordinary Hanma ancestor made it. (Chapter 756)
