Moon Arrow

The Moon Arrow is a legend-ranked divine weapon whose effect changes with the being it pierces. Given to Randalph Brigsiel to restore Gustarte, it ultimately becomes the “key of balance”: it reconstructs the god and returns his will, then transfers with his divinity into Randalph’s chest when Gustarte disappears.

History

A divine vaccine from the Reverse World

In the Reverse World, 0001 gives Randalph an apparently ordinary arrow and calls it a vaccine capable of saving his “Teacher,” Gustarte. Mind’s Eye identifies it as a Moon Arrow formed from condensed moon aura and bearing the blessing and grace of the gods. Randalph accepts it without knowing its opponent-specific effect and carries it as the essential means of dealing with Gustarte. If it fails, he is prepared to kill the god rather than allow him to remain a controlled doll. (Chapters 198–210)

Delayed use and delegated research

After Chrisley helps trap Gustarte with Greed-derived stones, Randalph draws the arrow but postpones using it so the captive god can first be studied. He gives the Moon Arrow to Chrisley with orders to investigate it separately and to let it touch Gustarte only at the end, since restoring his divinity could end the opportunity for research. Gaparam later becomes its direct researcher. He can penetrate only one of its many “veils,” concluding that it exists for balance, and warns that piercing Gustarte could instead make him run wild. The Tree of Origin adds a separate uncertainty: the arrow can awaken Gustarte’s will, but his soul may already be too far toward the origin for a complete recovery. (Chapters 213, 226–227)

Restoration of Gustarte

Randalph recalls the arrow from Gaparam and strikes it vertically into Gustarte’s chest while Greed continues to seal the god’s power. The arrow shines blue, expands into a large key, and forms a matching opening in Gustarte’s chest. His body splits into thousands of pieces and repeatedly reconstructs for dozens of minutes before he awakens with his ego restored. The key then turns, melts, and conceals itself within his body. The result confirms the restorative interpretation for Gustarte, although the item’s own description warns that a different target could produce a completely different effect. (Chapters 227–228)

Transfer into Randalph’s heart

Gustarte identifies the transformed Moon Arrow as the key to balance and proposes using it to keep Death Bringer from taking him. Randalph draws the key out of Gustarte’s chest; Gustarte forces his divinity through it into Randalph, whose body begins collapsing under the influx. After Randalph endures the pain through his attachment to his unfinished goals, the key lodges in his chest and Gustarte disappears. The Moon Arrow therefore no longer remains a free arrow within the cited evidence: its latest form is the balance key embedded in Randalph. (Chapter 228)

Abilities and properties

• While held in arrow form, it grants all statistics +2 and can pierce every boundary. The evidence does not define the duration of the statistic bonus or enumerate which physical, magical, or dimensional boundaries it can cross. (Chapter 198)
• It is condensed from moon aura, contains divine blessing and grace, and is described as a clone of the gods of the moon. Its resulting effect changes completely according to the pierced opponent, so Gustarte’s restoration cannot safely be generalized to every target. (Chapter 198)
• Against Gustarte, it becomes a blue-lit key, reconstructs his body, and restores his ego and will. Greed is used to keep his power sealed during the procedure; Gaparam warns beforehand that an uncontrolled result could make the god run wild. (Chapter 227)
• As the key of balance, it can remain in a bearer’s heart, confer divinity without making that bearer a god, and sustain immortality while the bearer retains a strong attachment to the world. Gustarte warns that the bearer’s flesh will cease to exist if that attachment disappears. (Chapter 228)
• Transferring Gustarte’s divinity through the key places an extreme burden on Randalph: his body collapses, he experiences overwhelming pain and helplessness, and survival depends on refusing to relinquish his worldly attachments. No painless or low-risk transfer method is shown. (Chapter 228)
• Before use, its mechanism is unusually resistant to analysis. Gaparam uncovers only its relation to balance, while 0001 and the Tree of Origin disagree over whether Gustarte can be fully fixed; the successful restoration resolves that immediate case but not the arrow’s full range of target-dependent outcomes. (Chapters 226–227)

Ownership and custody
